The picturesque village of Albert Lea was platted in 1856. It wasnβt until 1868, however, when the Southern Minnesota Railroad built a line through town, that the communityβs development accelerated. Albert Lea became a major railway juncture for southern Minnesota, leading to construction of a depot for the Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad at 606 South Broadway (also in 1868). A modern station replaced the original in 1914. The second structure supported rail networks connecting East...

A Moment in U.S. Diplomatic History Artificial Intelligence (AI) is developing and advancing right before our very eyes. It has aggressively integrated into our society as it contributes heavily to a plethora of fields such as medical, legal, military, and government. Although AI is used universally as a resource and tool, it is less certain how advanced and dependable it will become. Likewise, society is still determining the implications it will have on the global dynamic. Diplomatic figure...

A series of celestial phenomena is expected to occur in December 2024. Astronomical phenomena are natural events in outer space that can be observed from Earth. These events change monthly due to the movement of celestial bodies, each with different orbits and speeds.
Here is a list of astronomical phenomena expected in December 2024, including the Geminid meteor shower, Jupiter opposition, and the appearance of comet Rosetta. Quoted from Time And Date on Thursday (28/11/2024), here are the details:
1. New Moon
The moon will be positioned directly between Earth and the sun, rendering it invisible in the night sky. This new moon phase will occur on Sunday (1/12/2024) at 06:22 UTC or around 01:22 WIB.
This moment is the best time to observe faint objects like galaxies and star clusters as there is no moonlight interference.
2. Jupiter Opposition
The next astronomical phenomenon in December 2024 is the opposition of Jupiter. The giant planet will be at its closest distance to Earth.
Jupiter's surface will be fully illuminated by the sun, making it brighter than any other time of the year and visible throughout the night.
This event is an excellent opportunity to observe and photograph Jupiter and its surrounding moons. You can see it using a medium-sized telescope or a good pair of binoculars to capture the moment.
3. Geminid Meteor Shower
The Geminid meteor shower is one of the largest meteor showers of late 2024. Dubbed the "king of meteor showers," the Geminid will be visible in the sky from December 4 to 20, 2024.
According to NASA on Thursday (28/11/2024), the Geminid meteor shower is expected to peak between December 13 and 15, 2024. This meteor shower is regarded as the best meteor shower in the sky, producing up to 120 colorful meteors per hour at its peak.
The Geminid meteor shower is caused by debris left behind by asteroid 3200 Phaethon, discovered in 1982.
4. December Solstice
The December solstice is expected to occur at 09:17 UTC or around 16:17 WIB. The Earth's South Pole will tilt toward the sun, reaching its southernmost position in the sky.
Additionally, the southern pole will be directly above the Tropic of Capricorn at 23.44 degrees south latitude. This event marks the first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
5. Ursid Meteor Shower
Apart from the Geminid meteor shower, the Ursid meteor shower will also be visible in the sky from December 17 to 26, 2024. This astronomical phenomenon is expected to peak on December 22 and 23, 2024, with around 5 to 10 meteors per hour.
The Ursid meteor shower is caused by dust particles left behind by co
met Tuttle, first discovered in 1790.
