DApps have become very popular among people who know a little bit about cryptocurrencies. The concept of decentralized application has changed the way users interact with this market. Although the idea of an application is embedded in DApps, there is a difference between the applications we use on our phones and computers and the decentralized applications. Do you know what the difference is?

The biggest difference is that the operation of a decentralized application does not depend on centralized servers, an organization, brand or company to concentrate and handle the data, but works on a decentralized database (blockchain).
To understand the difference between the two, it is necessary to visualize how the applications we already use in our daily lives work, such as Uber, Netflix, YouTube, Instagram or Whatsapp. In all these examples, data processing takes place via central servers. The information of all users is tied to the companies that control these servers, so these companies can easily edit the data, censor users, help or even harm a specific person. In this context, impartiality and neutrality would be the most correct course of action for these companies, but in most cases this is not the case, leaving application users at the mercy of the "good will" of the companies controlling the servers.

The acronym DApp comes from the English term "Decentralized Applications" or in Portuguese "decentralized applications", and the great revolution is precisely the change in governance and autonomy, since people have full control over the operation, so that any user can safely access all the services that DApps offer, without the possibility of having your data extracted, your account censored or your information stolen.
Even though we have internalized the concept, there is still a technical part that better illustrates the differences between DApps and apps. We can make the fork into three parts, the frontend, the backend and the data storage layer.

The frontend is the user interface, that is, what people can see, with the ability to interact, receive or send information.
The backend is the layer that relates to the main logic of the application. In apps, this logic is centralized, while in DApps it is decentralized, as the backend is connected to smarts contracts running on a blockchain (e.g., Ethereum). Since these smart contracts are visible and public, this ensures the security and transparency of the DApp, as users can be sure that the Dapp does not work differently than the smart contract intends.
The data storage layer is very important today, as many centralized applications often face the loss, theft, or intrusion of their users' personal data. In DApps, this data storage is decentralized, meaning that each Dapp user stores a complete history of the actions they have performed on the network. Consequently, interactions are stored on the blockchain within their blocks, and everything is encrypted and secure, preventing unauthorized access by third parties.
Therefore, a decentralized application is much more secure, faster, and offers much more autonomy to the end user. Today there are several different solutions already in use, there are banks, social networks, music applications, and every day there are new ideas using the DApp concept.

The applications and possibilities are countless, and there are already people using a DApp who do not even know it. In the coming years, blockchain and all related technologies will be ahead of the market, bringing more security and autonomy to users. But until that happens, we can only continue to venture forward with DApps and the news that has emerged in recent months.
