Yes, working in a DAO is ambiguous.
Yes, we are still experimenting.
Yes, there is a certain amount of assumed risk.
But no. We cannot use those facts as an excuse not to listen and empathize with our members.
Of course there will be confusion about the; working structure, tokenomics, compensation structure, legal structure, community engagement process, proposal process, voting arrangements and other pressing issues.
But just because we have not thought through how these could work in the current context does not mean we should use ambiguity as a scape goat - and cold shoulder or gaslight ideal members.
Future member, if you hear statements that sound or feel like:
“This is just how DAOs work, deal with it.” “We can’t do that, because no other DAOs have done it like that before.” “Just wait till the token launches, then we’ll have a compensation plan.” “We don’t know, it’s whatever the community wants.”
Proceed with extreme caution and assume that all the work and energy you put into helping is done on a volunteer basis.
If DAOs truly care about the their members and practice strategic empathy, conversations should be filled with possibility, support and engagement.
Not cold shouldering legitimate questions from ideal members that signal safety and belonging.
