hello again #lover. today we dive a little deeper into our story of reflection, liberation, destruction, and creation. adding a new link to the blockchain with matrix: the music video, now available on Zora.

with the release of this piece onto web3, we claim the magic that occurs when we acknowledge, observe and deconstruct the constructs we exist within. using that magic to build exactly the worlds we want.

with our last piece, we created the portal. gestated in the waters of pre-creation. and prepared to take make our move through the door into our consciously created realities.

here, with matrix: the music video, we take a deeper look at the first chapter of our story. a prequel, if you will. the moments that led to us commencing on this epic journey. the space where we came to recognize our role in the upholding and perpetuation of the constructs that hold us down.

“matrix: the music video” was created in Los Angeles, California, on April 28, 2021.

it tells my story of waking up to the constructs within which my identity -- and in turn, my reality -- had been created by, for, and around me. and the realization that, through my subconscious clinging to the beliefs i held, which fueled the choices i made, i was choosing to stay bound to said constructs. that my habitual choices. my triggers. my trauma. my beliefs. all contributed to the way i was showing up for myself, in my life, and in the world around me. and that, despite my perception of these things as true, none of them were really me. they were things i had tried on over the years and made real for myself. why these things became real? the reasons are seemingly endless. external validation leading to the momentary pleasant feeling of satisfaction. an insatiable feeling that one comes back for again and again. (a thirst that simply cannot be quenched externally. but rather, is a flowing wellspring when approached internally.) the safety of repeating behaviors with known outcomes. the desire for love and acceptance. the matrix i was existing within became comfortable, even with all of its discomfort and destructive behavior it required to continue to exist. it was known. and we like familiarity. we would rather stay in known destructive habits, than venture into the reality that exists beyond that knowing. i knew what existed in my discomfort. i knew the outcomes of my destructive habits and limiting beliefs. and i was safe there. until i wasn’t. until it became too heavy a mask to carry.

this visual piece represents the programming we undergo when born onto this earth. while not inherently malicious, this social conditioning is often subconsciously used as a tool for control. ostracising, otherizing, and dehumanizing those who don’t or can’t fit within the prescribed boxes.

in the piece, we see BXB LOVE, sitting in the liminal space. being a “good girl” and soaking up her societal conditioning. the TV in the middle of the space teaching her how to best perform her role in society. how to be a lady. how to be an artist. how to be a human. how to not shake the foundations of the paradigm that needs her belief in it to exist.

the characters in red and black outfits are the parts of us that don’t fit within the boxes. the daydreamed versions of LOVE that want to exist beyond the boundaries and binaries of this character she’s been given. the parts she doesn’t see reflected in the lessons she’s being taught. that want to color outside the lines. the truths that would be quietly tucked away once the programming is deemed successful. these daydreams push the boundaries of LOVE’s perception as to what is possible. what is real. the paths that lay ahead. surrender to the comfort of having your life laid out for you. or choose differently. choose for yourself.

LOVE’s desire to express their infinitude proves stronger than the system’s ability to control. she chooses differently.

this choice triggers the simulated TV version of LOVE to “wake up".” to become cognizant of the fact that they are existing within a simulated reality. it realizes that they are performing the same tasks in the same ways over and over and over again to no end. “going round in the same old loop…” leading to a complete meltdown.

LOVE witnesses this. a mirror of what would have been their path had this training been successful. in choosing to move down a different path, LOVE gets to see and acknowledge the generational trauma that they are healing. the spells they are breaking. and by doing so, consciously going down a path that will not continue to teach and perpetuate the systems that came before her. not becoming the co-creator of this disempowering construct.

as the piece ends, the simulation reaches out to LOVE, as if to say, i see you, i feel you there, thank you for choosing differently. it was LOVE’s belief in the simulation as true that made it real. in choosing different, the simulation got to be free from its role, and LOVE found freedom from becoming that role. and in the final moments of the piece, we witness LOVE beaming out of this liminal space… where they go, we will have to wait and see.
