Watch an interview with Concept Art House about Darewise's upcoming AAA game below.
Let’s have a brief introduction of Vincent. After a successful venture in online gambling, Vincent joined Ubisoft EMEA to grow the digital and free-to-play games division, managing large projects throughout their full lifecycle, and brokering new deals in Europe, Russia, and Asia and developed Ubisoft F2P presence in these regions. His teams drove and operated the acquisition, marketing and communication of Ubisoft F2P portfolio. Vincent’s responsibilities grew to include the Steam, XBox and PlayStation portfolio as Head of Digital Sales EMEA, driving the growth of digital sales and managing multi-million dollar accounts.
In 2018, Vincent joined ESL Gaming in 2018, to oversee the business in France and Spain. In 3 years, he managed over 60 people and successfully refocused the companies around key products and activities leading to profitability and growth.
In the interview, Vincent Marty introduced himself: "I'm an engineer, I've worked in the game industry my whole life. My career started when I built a gaming platform, I'm not sure about this platform if still exist, but it's a game of skill, and I create these platform games in France where players use their skill to beat their opponents. For me as an entrepreneur, it's been a very great experience because that was the first time I really realized I was born for this industry and it was a very successful experience. I set up a solid English team to develop more platforms to monetize the online world , at that time I had another opportunity to join Ubisoft. In 2011 Ubisoft's European team was building their F2P and digital games, and they were looking for people with Internet experience, so I joined their team and became a Captain of the European team. I manage all F2E products, from marketing to community growth. I am responsible for commercial development of products in Russia with Asian partners.”
"During my time at Ubisoft, I met my friend, Benjamin, who is a partner in my current company. My time at Ubisoft has been an evolution of my gaming career for me because I'm working on building AAA games, and that's still a challenge for me. After leaving Ubisoft, Benjamin and I built Darewise, a French joint venture with a team of maybe 100 people spread across Europe .It was an interesting journey because the company was completely different before and now it has evolved into a startup. We changed many times until we found what we really wanted to do, which at the time sounded very strange, but it's the metaverse and true ownership that games are based on now. In 2017 and 2018, whenever we brought this up, people thought we were crazy, so it took us a long time to get to this point. We were still I wanted to launch a player contract, where players draft their own contracts to give other players tasks, etc. Later I was invited to join an e-sports team, and Benjamin called me back a few years later.”
In the interview, Vincent also introduced many other introductions about AAA games and details about Darewise.
What it takes to build a AAA game
It requires not only a lot of manpower and resources, but also a lot of time and energy. Even if you launch products in the market every year, these are not achieved overnight and may take three to five years. AAA games do cost a lot, but that's what gets players excited. We wanted to create the first large-scale AAA RPG that supported true ownership and player drive, and that required a lot of technology, and in 2018 we found a partner who was very supportive of our vision and leveraged their technology may be able to accomplish our vision. In our game, not everyone has to be a hero, you can be a knight in gorgeous armor, or you just want to be a fisherman who sells fish, etc.
How players can contribute to the game
Players can choose the character they want to be in the game and do whatever they want, and they will have a toolbox to do it. The game mainly revolves around three heroes. This planet is also a brand new place, and players go to that planet to explore. But there will be alien attacks on the planet, so you'll have to fix that before you can be stationed. After that, players can build societies on the planet, and by completing tasks in the game, they will get token rewards or NFTs, and NFTs can also be sold in the secondary market.
P2E mode
What we want is not just for players to play games to earn money, but for players to earn money while enjoying the game. Because we're game makers, and games are supposed to be fun, if you think of it as work, it would be hard to have fun.
How Life Beyond avoided gaming restrictions
Generally, in the early stage of the game, players are required to purchase expensive NFTs to join the game. We have adopted a very simple method to avoid this limitation. Our game is free to play, characters do not need to attach any NFT, the source of value lies in the props and tools you cast. Players can still enjoy the game if they don't want to be involved in any of the blockchain-related aspects.
Open Alpha details
The Alpha will open at the end of the month and last for 3 months, which is equivalent to opening an early access for those players who have the first batch of NFTs. We distributed the first batch of NFTs in the form of airdrops, and a total of more than 1 million players were airdropped. During this period, we will also release some NFTs, which have practical use in the game.
Darewise culture
Darewise has a very open culture where everyone can participate in the work. We have teams that span almost all of Europe, and we can share progress and personal stories with each other. We are still recruiting, if you are interested, you can go to Darewise official website to apply. We have a very perfect management mechanism and focus on personal development, we will not force employees to do things they don't like.
At the end of the interview, Vincent made a final statement: "Thank you very much for being here, we are also very excited to show you what we are doing, and you are welcome to join us on Discord or other social media. We are looking for more partners, and it is what we valued a lot."
