We all know that Nemus is a new way to protect and preserve the Earth's natural resources, starting with the Amazon rainforest. This approach has direct real-world impact by connecting anyone with a digital (web3) wallet using NFTs and cryptocurrencies.
Land has always provided resources for humans, however, the Amazon, the world's largest tropical rainforest, is still burning, it is still threatened by deforestation, and is rapidly approaching a tipping point. Whether due to ancient traditions, a lack of choice, or personal financial gain, the value of the rainforest leans toward its destruction, and little has been done to change it. So, in the face of this phenomenon, Nemus decided to change that.
However, it is not enough to legally own and protect land in the Amazon, on the one hand, land can still be used and destroyed without ongoing activities, monitoring and ongoing funding. On the other hand, land can also be protected through sustainable activities on the land that limit access and help deter illegal practices, while bringing benefits to biodiversity and local communities.
So Nemus acquires at-risk land in the rainforest and creates a collection of collectible NFTs, each linked to a unique geographic location within the land. A portion of NFT sales are used to pay for operations and land purchases, while the rest of the proceeds are stored in the Nemus treasury. With the help of the Nemus DAO, the Treasury then financed economic and social activities on the land.
