African gaming startup Carry1st raises $20 million, led by a16z

On January 19, African game startup Carry1st announced that it has completed a $20 million Series A financing, led by a16z, with participation from Avenir and Google. Carry1st is a16z's first investment in Africa, a game trading platform that is also building its own payment platform. Carry1's founder, Cordel Robbin Coker, said Carry1st's embedded payment solution allows underbanked consumers to pay for content on its website through their preferred method.
