Casino Setubalense was inaugurated in 1908. That same year, it was subject to works in order to host cinema sessions.

The room was quite large, with capacity for 800 people. The success was almost immediate with the sessions sold out on many occasions.
In the beginning, it opened doors to Rua dos Marmelinhos (currently Rua António Maria Eusébio), but later the entrance started to take place through Avenida Luísa Todi. In May of the same year, the paintings were completed, modifications were made to the audience and a cinematographic camera was installed.

This space was vast, with its capacity oscillating between 700 and 800 seats and in July 1908 it was already the most frequented house in the city.
The program was very varied, in addition to cinema, circus shows, music and even illusionism and hypnotism sessions that were very fashionable at the time.
In 1910 it closed for a while to receive minor renovations.
The 1920s were less prosperous for Casino Setubalense, which would close its doors. In the early 1930s, it was acquired by União Futebol Comércio e Indústria, reopening in 1933. This collective essentially promoted dances that were very popular. A few months later, it was taken over by José Manuel Barafusa, who resumed showing films, with the room already prepared to receive sound cinema.
In 1936 it closed again for renovation works, but due to lack of funds the works would never be completed in their entirety, foreshadowing a period of difficulties.
From the 1970s onwards, programming was made up of martial arts and Trinitá films. At night, pornographic films were also shown. In the 1980s, the decay of the building increased and, together with the lack of public, it became increasingly evident that Casino Setubalense would never see the 1990s.

Currently, the building where the Setubalense casino once existed has a white painted facade and is walled up.
