What followed was nothing short of a miracle, a gradual and hard-fought battle where my brother, with God's grace and our fervent prayers, defied the odds.
Doctors and science had no explanation for the healing that took place. It was an inexplicable journey of gradual progress, where my brother wiggled his toe one day and, through resilience and perseverance, eventually regained the ability to walk over the course of a year. Witnessing this undeniable miracle deeply impacted me, highlighting the limits of scientific understanding and the mystery that lies beyond our grasp. It was during this point in my life that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
I knew the Bible holds truths that transcend rational thinking. It ventures into realms that cannot be scientifically proven, touching on the intangible aspects of existence. Love, for instance, defies formulation and proof within the scientific framework. It is a profound truth that resonates within the human experience, yet it eludes the confines of empirical evidence.
My perception of Genesis 1 underwent a profound transformation when I stumbled upon the insights of Jordan Peterson and later Marty Solomon co-host of the BEMA podcast. They shed light on the cultural context in which Genesis was written, particularly in relation to the prevalent Greek mythology of warring gods who toyed with humanity as mere playthings. To grasp this concept, imagine a blazing sun, radiating its light and warmth in every direction, permeating the vast expanse of the universe. Similarly, this divine essence, this highest possible good, is omnipresent, surrounding us at all times and in all places. It calls for our focused attention, our celebration, and our reverence.

He leaves it to us to bring His kingdom into the earthly circumstances we encounter. He gives us free will to do this, that's why it's near and not always here. We have a choice in the matter.
Understanding this has inspired a deeper sense of responsibility and stewardship. I now see the vast resources of our world as a means to pursue the greatest good, to offer them to God—the embodiment of the highest possible good. It compels me to consider how I can utilize these resources, not just for personal gain or indulgence, but for the betterment of others and the flourishing of our shared existence.

The story of Cain and Abel, took on a whole new meaning as I grasped the concept of sacrifice in a broader sense. Sacrifice is not limited to religious rituals; it permeates every aspect of our lives. It mirrors the sacrifices parents make for their children, the dedication and discipline of an athlete striving for excellence, or the sacrifices required to excel in any endeavor. It became clear to me that the pursuit of the greatest good—the aim worthy of our focused attention and celebration—demands sacrifices that extend beyond ourselves. It encompasses the well-being of others, our families, future generations, and even the preservation of our planet. Abel's sacrifice was sufficient, like the athlete who gave their all in practice everyday. Cain rested on his place as the firstborn and became bitter not willing to put in the full effort. Which as you hopefully can see now is not good. Therefore his sacrifice was not sufficient to God (the greatest good).
In embracing this new perspective, I have found a deeper sense of purpose, meaning, and connection to God. It has allowed me to navigate the complexities of faith and reason with a newfound sense of harmony, honoring the pursuit of knowledge while recognizing the profound mysteries that lie beyond our understanding. This shift has fostered a sense of awe, wonder, and reverence for the divine, inviting me to live a life that is guided by love, compassion, and the pursuit of the greatest good for all of humanity.
For me, discovering this new interpretation of Genesis 1 has been a transformative journey that has impacted my daily life in profound ways. I realize that, like those who played a part in Jesus' betrayal, I, too, have fallen short of fully comprehending the depths of the greatest good. Recognizing this, I am able to extend forgiveness to others, just as Jesus did. It is a reminder that we are all on a journey of growth and understanding, continually learning to align our will with the divine.
This understanding of the greatest good has also deepened my appreciation for love, faith, and hope. I see them as infinite, boundless, and ever-present, just like the pursuit of the greatest good itself. It has ignited in me a profound sense of interconnectedness with the world around me, fostering a greater appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us and the responsibility we have to nurture and protect it.
In my daily life, I'm now working on myself to see opportunities to embody the greatest good—to love, to show compassion, and to make choices that reflect a deep concern for the well-being of others. To push away my will (pride, self-righteousness) in favor of focusing on the greatest good (others, self-sacrifice). I celebrate and honor those who exemplify the greatest good, recognizing their influence and allowing their examples to inspire and guide me.
