1. Open your code. Hide your strategy.
Web3 users want verification, not your playbook. Open-source your smart contracts. Publish audits. Prove your protocol won’t rug anyone at midnight. But your GTM strategy, partnerships, pricing logic, and roadmap? Keep those locked. Even Vitalik Buterin operates with radical technical transparency while protecting strategic advantage. Transparency of execution builds trust. Transparency of strategy builds competitors.
2. Make teams accountable—not exposed.
Public accountability creates trust. Personal exposure creates targets. Link leadership to verifiable wallets. Show GitHub activity. Make incentives visible. Prove you have skin in the game—without sacrificing personal safety or privacy. On-chain accountability beats performative openness every time.
3. Lock liquidity. Lock intent.
Liquidity locks are trust signals on steroids. Multi-year locks, time-locked contracts, sane vesting. This eliminates the single biggest fear in Web3: the rug pull. Anyone can copy features. They can’t copy locked commitment.
4. Communicate execution. Stay silent on strategy.
Share progress obsessively: shipping updates, community calls, public roadmaps. Momentum builds trust. But don’t leak strategic moves early. No partnerships until signed. No pricing until launch. Smart projects show movement without giving competitors a map.
5. Reward signal. Punish noise.
Design incentives for contribution, not speculation. Long-term liquidity, real usage, meaningful participation. Make mercenary behavior expensive. Uniswap didn’t build loyalty by rewarding airdrop tourists—it rewarded real users. Alignment beats hype.
Trust is the only moat that compounds.
Features get copied. Marketing gets outspent.
Credibility has to be earned—and once earned, it’s almost impossible to steal.
Build it deliberately.
Protect it ruthlessly.
