What were you doing at 13? I was playing baseball during the summer and hanging out with my friends. Some 13 year olds are going on beach vacations, skateboarding, or playing video games. It would be hard to believe that most people are as forward-thinking and enterprising as Nyla Hayes. Nyla is a prodigy who has connected her artistic talents and technical prowess to create an NFT empire.

Nyla’s mother, Latoya, recognized her daughter’s passion for art at a very young age. Latoya in a Today article says, “I could see how passionate she was about her art and I just thought like, if I could support her in any way. That’s exactly what I’m going to do”. This early recognition of Nyla’s passion led Latoya to buy her a smartphone at 9 years old. The smartphone was the beginning of Nyla’s imagination being applied on the infinite digital canvas. However, before developing a widespread internet following, Nyla began sharing her art exclusively with her support system to hone her skills.

After encouragement from Nyla’s uncle, she decided to explore using an NFT marketplace as a way to share her artwork with the masses. Hayes’ signature collection, Long Neckies, has since gained mainstream attention. The collection comprises pictures of women with elongated necks, combining Nyla’s passion for portraits of women and her favorite dinosaur, the Brontosaurus. Long Neckies features 3000 portraits and some of them have sold for over $5000 dollars. Not only are Nyla’s portraits being bought by influencers such as Gary Vee. Remarkably, Nyla’s collection has sold over 5 million worth of NFTs.

As a result of Nyla’s success, accolades have continued to come her way. Nyla was awarded Time Magazine’s first “Artist in Residence”. Her first work in this role was a recreation of Time's cover portraits of their "Women of the Year" franchise. Additionally, Last year, Nyla was named NFT.NYC’s Emerging Artist of the Year. Moreover, her star potential was even further validated as she signed a deal to be represented by CAA, one of the most prestigious talent agencies.

It should be clear that Nyla has a bright future ahead of her. Already a multimillionaire who has connected innovation, community, and art, she is a prodigy who I predict will evolve as not only an artist but also as an innovator. She already has a global brand and a defined market as the subjects of her work reflect women from various backgrounds. In an interview with NBC News Now anchor Savannah Sellers, Nyla shared, "I love drawing women from all around the world because I really like different cultures and different backgrounds".

What will Naya do next? Clearly, Naya is the ultimate voice and will shape the course of her career. However, a couple of thoughts come to mind below about where she can take it.

First, the Long Neckies collection itself provides Nyla with an abundance of licensing opportunities. The portraits in this collection can be placed in the fashion vertical with the increasing interest of digital and physical fashion. Additionally, these figures in this collection can also be used in the entertainment space. For example, it could be plausible for the Long Neckies to have a metaverse component. Nyla can also follow the footsteps of the Aku Dreams project and license her collection to an entertainment producer.

Secondly, Nyla’s creativity will only grow over time. It is plausible that she will continue to produce art that will receive worldwide acclaim. With the community that Nyla’s current collection has already garnered, she can transfer those supporters throughout the evolution of her artistic journey.

Additionally, it can be easily envisioned that Nyla will develop more passions and will leverage her immense creativity to solve the issues that she cares about. With that being said, she will be able to draw support from her current following to her future endeavors. Additionally, in the event that these endeavors require the support of investors, Nyla has demonstrated the ability to generate traction and execute her ideas, which should yield favorable outcomes.

Consider the following predictions that are plausible for not only Naya, but also other web3 artists.

The first prediction that can be made is that more web3 artists will draw corporate supporters earlier in their careers. Companies will identify emerging artists and feature them via brand partnerships throughout the course of their careers.

The second prediction is that web3 artists will look to expand the mediums of where their arts are displayed. For example, along with producing NFT art that is sold on platforms such as Opensea, artists will use their work in other mediums such as merchandise.

A third prediction is that there will be backers for these artists, almost like investors who will inject capital into an artist to accelerate the artist’s communities and traction. These investors will make long-term commitments and in return have equity in the artist’s brand. Additionally, it is not far-fetched to imagine the smart contracts featuring the terms that the artist has made with their investors.

All things considered, Nyla is a trailblazer and it will be fascinating to watch how her success grows over time. She has laid out a blueprint for passionate young artists to generate value through their artwork through a technological component. It will be fascinating to see how Nyla leverages her brand to evolve her art and her impact in the technology and art spaces.
