I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what writing online actually means when you’re just starting out. I found the piece on writer coins and it hit-home: it’s less about putting up paywalls or chasing clicks, and more about building something with the people who believe in you early.
Traditional subscriptions are great for some folks — but here’s what I felt: if I’m new to writing, asking people to pay feels weird. What I really want is people who are along for the journey, who believe I have potential, even if today my work isn’t “perfect.”
That’s where writer coins come in. They give early supporters a ticket into the ride. You back me now, we grow together, and you benefit from the upside if my writing grows.
That changes the game.
Here are a few thoughts from my perspective:
Launch the moment. If I decide to try this, it’s not waiting till I’m “ready” — it’s inviting people in now, saying “Hey, I’m figuring this out.” That honesty feels powerful.
Reward early supporters. The idea that someone who reads, comments, shares my writing early gets a reward feels fair. It’s as if they’re partners, not just readers.
Pairing tokens and writing. I might not have a big token or an NFT right now, but imagining the possibility — that my writing could link to my on-chain journey — opens up new creative paths.
Make it simple. The best supporter experience is one where people don’t need to be experts in crypto to join. Just belief, a bit of trust, and an easy way to do that.
As someone just starting: I’m not claiming to have the best thoughts or the biggest audience. But I am claiming to care and be present.
If writing and community can be aligned through something like writer coins, then maybe this journey doesn’t feel so lonely anymore.
Maybe it feels adventurous.
So, here’s to being early.
Here’s to writing imperfectly.
Here’s to inviting you in.
— Day Two, figuring it out.
