Being a woman in this moment in history requires all of the above. We must recognize and cultivate these traits within ourselves and empower the women in our lives to do the same. And, often in contrast of those traits, we also hold space for the roles society has told us we MUST play in this game of Empire.
Homemakers. Mothers. Nuturers. Martyrs. Peacemakers. Compassionate. Subservient. Secondary. Codependent. Quiet. Submissive.
How often are women given permission to burn down such expectations of the patriarch to embrace our true essence? To define homemaker, peacemaker, mother, and nutuerer in a way that also protects our sovereignty? Almost never.
We are punished for speaking out. Abused for telling a man to check himself. Mocked for embracing our emotions. Destroyed for vocalizing our opinions. Dismissed for following our intuition. Silenced for speaking our truths. Told we’re “overreacting” for identifying threats that our gut senses before violence manifests.
Is it any wonder at all that the ecosystems we travel within are burning to the ground in this moment of time? Look at almost every male leader in your industry or on the global political stage and identify who is acting from a place of pure destruction. Then tell me that this person has a functioning ego and shows any indicator of working with the divine feminine in any capacity.
Take a long hard look at the wounded male egos that are destroying America because they never did the hard work of processing their emotions or leaning into the reality that they coexist within a large tapestry of existence that requires equanimity and compassion for everyone to thrive. I’ve worked in tech for more than a decade, I know exactly why the broligarch archetype has thrived to the point of destroying democracy.
Our society is burning to the ground because we, as a species, have failed to honor and cherish the feminine in any capacity. And we can trace this reality back to the origin story so many of us in the West were fed from childhood to subjugate women and silence our fierce will and beautiful wisdom.
Here’s the truth that most powerful, awake women are leaning into right now--we have to release societal obligations and let this mother fucker burn to the ground. All of it. It MUST burn to ash so we, the kind and fierce ones who’ve embraced their divine feminine-- women AND men-- can rebuild a just and equitable world for everyone.
Is your community allowing misogyny to grow in the shadows, empowering people to disregard or overrun the feminine voices trying to protect, ground and nurture the communal container? Let it burn.
Is your spiritual community falling victim to the pull of greed and guru, spreading harm and destruction within its wake? Let it burn.
Is your industry filled with grown ass manchildren hoovering up VC money to play hypothetical tokenomic games and destroying amazing technological advances in the process? Let it burn.
Are your fellow countrymen letting the government eat their own faces off because they fear women and hate minorities-- allowing misogyny and racism to resurge and become the law again? Let those fuckers burn.
Let it all burn to ash. We can never rebuild ourselves, our communities or our country without first destroying the Empire’s framework of misogyny, abuse and subjugation. Our societal systems were never designed to give space to our humanity and let it shine through. Our systems were designed to suppress, extract and abuse.
Our systems must burn to the ground in order for us to have the space to reimagine, reestablish and rebuild the world we wish to flourish within.
And as these old systems of colonization crumble, we must hold space for the ones we love, the ones we care for and the ones who need our protection. We must hold the space so those who are ready to evolve can explore what is to come.
And in order to build this new vision of our society, we must also create new myths. We must create and amplify the counter narratives to the Empire. Now. With urgency.
All of our mainstream religions were founded thousands of years ago on myths. Those belief systems grew through the oral storytellers who carried those myths from one village to the next. We can compare the origin stories of Christianity, Yoga and the Iroquois and see the drastically different approaches and deconstruct how such myths created our current reality.
The dominant origin story of the West is that women are temptresses, leading Adam to the forbidden fruit and destroying their access to the Garden of Eden. That single myth has lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of women over centuries and has kept the divine feminine from thriving in the West. And now, two thousand years later, the West is on life support. A system can not exist with only masculine energy for this long. Eventually, it implodes upon itself.
In other cultures, origin stories are grounded in the reality that women created the Earth and nurture all beings. Such cultures live in harmony with the planet, with one another and celebrate the women of their communities as the wise and nurturing presence that they represent and embody.
And yes, these cultures suffered at the hands of the conquering Empire throughout recorded history. But these cultures survived-- and so did their myths. Storykeepers and myth-weavers ensured the wisdom encapsulated in their origin stories survived so that one day, when those ruling powers who removed the divine feminine collapse, myths of balance and nourishment could once again have the space to be heard, embodied and spread.
As we navigate the acceleration of transition during this sliver of history, turn to the myths of Sacred Wisdom as a tool to embrace your fierce divine feminine and stay grounded as the flames engulf all the frameworks of suppression and indoctrination which carried humanity to our current apex.
