Thanks for checking in on my journey to a decentralized life for my Decentralized Self. I’m excited to share what I have learned and spread the word about the projects that interest me as I navigate my way throuh the world of crypto and blockchain and all things Decentralized…
First off, I found Mirror thanks to a post on Twitter by Greg Younger who, according to his Twitter profile, is a writer, a Write3 Ambassador, and a 20-Year Investment Professional among other things. Actually, since finding Greg on Twitter, I’m remembering how much I enjoy writing… Thank you Greg for the introduction to Mirror and for your inspiration.
Well before coming across Greg’s Twitter thread, I was simply interested in learning about Cryptocurrency. I was listening to hours of podcasts daily while driving for the USPS and soaking up all I could about crypto and blockchain while simultaneously looking for a way to keep myself focused on a healthy lifestyle and daily exercise. I learned about the Move to Earn app StepN in early April, my gateway to the world of cryptocurrency. What’s better than exercising? Earning crypto while exercising…
Now If you know anything about StepN, you may know that April 2022 was a great month for them. I basically got in near the top of the Sneaker market when the Solana realm was pumping. I didn’t know a lot about the app but I knew it got me moving and on my way to a healthier lifestyle while making money. (Fast forward about 3 months and I’m still a daily user making a lot less money now then I was in April but still bullish on the project and continuing to build up my vault of sneakers.
Back to my journey…
I found Crypto, I found Stepn, I then got on FB and wanted to share what I was learning with others in my area. Nobody was talking about Crypto anywhere around me. I started a FB group, invited a few friends, shared links where I could, and got a good ittle group going with a decent conversation about various blockchain based topics and projects.
I seemed to make a good connection with the StepN community as it’s full of great people and it got me back into Twitter after being away from it for a few years. I was entrenched in #CryptoTwitter and following the sort of “big players” in Crypto and Blockchain. The DeFi space caught my interest and right away the idea of getting away from traditional/centralized banking institutions interested me but could that even be possible? Of course, as I soon realized…
So I learned more and more about Crypto and I’m logging my time on StepN and was soon introduced to the Helium project by a member of my Crypto FB group. I got into mining HNT despite hearing about how much more everybody was making well before I got involved and what a bad decision I had supposedly made to invest in a miner. (I’m very bullish on Helium and hoping to ROI in about a year with my SenseCap M1 so I think getting in when I did was a great move.)
I wanted to learn all I could about Helium and decentralized wireless so I loaded up my phone every morning with podcasts on Helium, and iOT, and DeWi. I started learning all there was about the network and different use cases. I found this app Discord with communities of people all interested in these projects that I was interested in and I began lurking around the Helium discord.
Along the way, I found HiveMapper and the HM community Discord, and I jumped into the conversation as it had this tie-in with Helium. I was getting active in about 6 channels on Discord for different blockchain based projects and sharing my time there with Twitter, my Crypto FB group, and podcasts.
Somehow it all clicked for me. Blockchain was the future and so much was possible with this technology (unfortunately I was about a decade late to the party). I learned about wallets, and tokens, and so much new terminology. I now had a Crypto debit card, I had a portion of my paycheck going into my exchange account and investing in different projects I was learning about along the way (a few bucks here and there but I have this goal of 5% of the value of my retirement portfolio). I was walking with StepN, I was mining Helium and I was getting more active in the Hivemapper community on discord. This was a brand new project and I have this great opportunity to get in early; something I missed out on with Helium. I was invited to be a MOD in their channel. Eventually I could be mining Helium at home and mining crypto while driving as well… Great stuff, right???
At this point I can have my paycheck deposited directly into my crypto wallet and I can pay my bills right from the wallet with the Spritz Finance app (Currently beta-testing for them).
At home I have this small backyard farm with a garden, and chickens, and rabbits and I’m now thinking about the iOT sensors I can incorporate into my daily routine out there. I’m looking to replace my old wifi-based weather station with a Helium-compatible unit that is coming out later this year from Weather XM.
Eventually I may have a Helium Sim-Card in my Solana Mobile phone (you never know).
My Coinbase debit card takes care of my daily expenses while earning me rewards in the form of more crypto. This is getting exciting… But Wait! There’s more!!!
Along comes DiMO, a Polygon based connect to earn project I found that will reward me for sharing my vehicle’s data. This is data that the auto manufacturers already have and basically sell back to me every time I need a repair because of some code that pops up. Now I can monetize my vehicle’s data. Developers and businesses can access this data on Dimo’s open source platform and build things that will save me money. Dimo is decentralizing my car! I’m now looking at mining crypto while I drive with Hivemapper and monetizing my driving habits and vehicle data with DiMO. Eventually there will be a tie-in with auto finance and insurance and basically tracking all aspects of vehicle ownership…all on the blockchain, and all decentralized.
There are so many other projects that interest me and so many ways to incorporate them into my daily life… Here, on Mirror, I’ll share more of my journey, highlight new blockchain based projects, and be a resource for those of you interested in living a decentralized life…
Ths list of projects will grow, I’ll dive a bit deeper into each of them and my journey will continue as I discover more ways to decentralize Rob.
