Farcaster is a Social Graph Protocol that creates infrastructure for seamless interaction between applications and users, eliminating the need for intermediaries like Twitter, Facebook, or Google. It leverages blockchain technology to enhance identity management, data security, and decentralized access to shared information.
Farcaster stands out from other social networks due to two key features:
Decentralization: Farcaster uses blockchain to manage identities and data, ensuring no single entity controls or manages user information. It operates across multiple nodes, giving users full control over their personal data.
Scalability: Farcaster is an open protocol, not just a standalone application. Developers can freely access its APIs and ecosystem to build customized apps with unique features.
Farcaster was developed by a team with extensive experience from companies like Coinbase and OneNote. It raised $30 million in a Seed round led by a16z, with participation from major investors such as Coinbase Ventures and Multicoin Capital.
The project is managed by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan, co-founders of Markle Manufactory, the company behind Farcaster. Romero, who previously served as an executive at Coinbase starting in 2014, co-founded Markle in 2019. Srinivasan, a former Product Manager at Microsoft’s OneNote, also founded SoundFocus, a media platform. After leaving SoundFocus in 2015, Srinivasan became Director of Engineering at Coinbase before teaming up with Romero to launch Farcaster.
