So, you just finished watching a two-hour movie?
Kelvin Kiptum just ran an entire marathon.
All 42.195km of it.
His splits are jaw-dropping.
We’re talking about a guy who runs 5K intervals at a pace most people can’t sustain for a minute.
It’s like comparing a Formula 1 car to your grandma’s old sedan.
I know most of y’all don’t run and don’t care.
But this is immense, for sports, for running, for humanity.
The fact that a fellow human can do such a feat is just mind-boggling.
We shouldn’t compare elites to normal joes.
But how does he stack up against other elite runners?
Well, let’s just say he’s in a league of his own.
Even Eliud Kipchoge, the previous world record holder, would have to squint to see him at the finish line.

Eliud’s best time was 2:01:09.
That was the world record by the world.
Kelvin just bested him and the world record by 34 seconds.
34 seconds in any race is a lifetime.
What’s even more astonishing is his age and lack of real marathon race experience.
He has no track background and reportedly self-trained himself for years. He’s 23 years old.
He’s young, almost too young to be this good. It’s like watching Mozart compose a symphony at age five.
How many savants were besting world champions and breaking world records at age 23?

So, what’s his secret sauce? A training regime that includes a staggering 300km per week.
“Every week, Eliud Kipchoge does between 180 and 220 km. Kelvin Kiptum is more between 250 and 280, sometimes more than 300km. It’s an adventure.”
And there’s no days off.
No rest days.
How is that even possible?
He has a diet that’s as disciplined as a monk’s. “My biggest secret is training hard. I take simple meals which include ugali, rice, and indigenous vegetables,” he said.
Will he be the greatest marathoner of our generation? All the signs point to a resounding yes.
Kiptum now owns three of the top six all-time fastest marathons. But let’s not jinx it.

Running isn’t just for the elites. It’s a lifestyle, a form of meditation, a way to challenge yourself every day. Don’t just stand there in awe; lace up your shoes.
So, what’s the takeaway? Don’t underestimate the underdog, especially if he’s running at breakneck speed. He runs his marathon at negative splits.
That means each km he runs, he gets faster.
I don’t see how he can do it but he does it anyway.
I am simply in awe of what Kelvin can do as a marathoner.
So happy to be alive in a time like this.
