Frankly, between the news of Jacinda Ardern stepping down as New Zealand Prime Minister and Su Zhu coming back to crypto in the form of GTX, I was overwhelmed and giddy with excitement.
Both were shocking, abrupt and very unexpected.
Prime Minister Ardern was a phenomenal leader in every sense of the word and she was simply sublime at her duties.
I thought Barack Obama was a generational world leader and I didn’t expect Ardern to turn out quite as good.
“Ardern became the world’s youngest female head of government when she was elected prime minister in 2017 at 37.
She has led New Zealand through the Covid-19 pandemic, and a series of disasters including the terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, and the White Island volcanic eruption.”
Sadly, she is stepping down.
Guess the job took it’s toll.
She had youth on her side, charm in her stride, and a deep sense of responsibility pulsing through her blood.
But the job of a Prime Minister is not simple at all.
She said she “no longer had enough in the tank” to do the job. “It’s time”.
It is not easy to be a world leader exposed to the world stage fighting crises after crises, trying to help a nation endure and cohere.
It is not easy to be a mother of a young child, who’s understanding of the world hasn’t matured and doesn’t get why she don’t get to see her mum often.
It is not easy to be advocating and fighting hard for women’s rights while battling naysayers and haters.
It impossible to be doing all that and still run for office as New Zealand’s youngest Prime Minister.
To be the shining example and glorious leader for 5.1M New Zealanders.
For that, I respect Ardern.
She taught me tenacity, courage and leadership.
New Zealand has lost their most powerful female leader.
The world has lost their most stalwart female power figure.
But a 4 year old has now regained her mother’s undivided attention and unwavering love.
You can say she quit while she was at the top of her game.
You can say she gave up so much to trade for a bit of normalcy in her life.
You can’t win everything in life.
Pick your battles and go into the right wars for the right reason, and it will serve you well for posterity.
