Was the iPhone 14 launch meh?
Sure the demo was cool (as expected from Apple’s product launches), but if you compared it the last generation of iPhones, it was just an incremental improvement.
Most of the cool new features were software (dynamic island, low power mode, always on display .etc).
The new A16 Bionic chip makes it faster (its really hard to tell unless you are still using an iPhone a few generations back).
The 14 Pro has a 48-MP camera (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 108MP camera!) and now comes in deep purple color.
Dandy.

I guess we have to wait for the iPhone 15 to see a leap in tech, in terms of battery life, better sensors, perhaps radical design changes, foldable screens or even a built-in projector.
But interestingly the prices were same from last year!
With inflation slowly creeping up on the entire world, that means that Apple’s products actually became cheaper!
Ah but the Apple Watch Ultra is a bit more exciting.
Its now squarish and rugged looking, the largest of all Apple watches and comes with a selection of 3 sports-inspired straps.
There is a customizable “action” button that you can do plenty with, with a push of a button (not swishing around on the touchscreen with sweaty fingers).
Makes me wonder “why didn’t they have that button all along?!”

The Apple Watch Ultra was clearly marketed to extreme athletes.
Seriously, who do you know needs to use their watches with snow gloves on or while submerged 100 feet underwater?
Maybe 1 out of the hundreds of friends you have have such extreme lifestyle or hobbies.
Its the extreme version of Apple Watches.
The price is also very extreme.
It starts at SGD $1,200!
Apple really stepped into the whole “Apple watch can track your health in real-time and save your life”.
Abnormal heart rate detection, fall detection, emergency rescue, GPS-tracking and now even advanced car-crash detection.

With the combinations of sensors like GPS, microphone and barometer, the watch can tell you the “precise moment of impact”.
Why would we ever need that?
Not sure.
But hey, if they can track that information, then its probably good to know?
When will our watches be able to tell us if we are really hungry or just our mouths itching.
That would be a feature I would love to have.
=)
Taking a step back, maybe we as consumers are too demanding.
We expect Apple to blow our minds EVERYTIME there is a launch.
Maybe Apple has done too good a job and spoilt us all with their revolutionary tech and stunning designs.
Maybe we should temper our enthusiasm and expectations.
We need the days that are average and normal, to give deeper meaning and proper high to the days that are high.
