Heard of Nick Saban?
To be honest, I don’t follow American Football and I haven’t heard of Nick.
But when I heard the announcement of his retirement from the helm of Alabama’s football program, I had to read up.
His retirement is the end of an era.
And he is transitioning into a new role as a sage on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”
Good for him.
He made $130 million in salary over 16 seasons at the University of Alabama.
He is one of the highest paid coaches ever.
That is $11.7 million every year.
It consistently m

Not too shabby at all.
Of course, there are NFL coaches who earn more, but Nick is in a university playing football at the collegiate level!
I mean, these are college kids we are talking about.
And their coaches are earning millions while the college football industry is worth billions!

Saban’s career, spanning 17 remarkable seasons with the Crimson Tide, is one of unparalleled achievements, setting a standard in college football that will likely remain unmatched for years to come.
Saban’s tenure at Alabama wasn’t just about dominating the gridiron.
He transformed the Crimson Tide into a powerhouse that not only won games but also shaped the futures of young athletes.
His strategic foresight, evident in his insistence on investing in top-notch facilities and nurturing NFL-level talents, translated into tangible successes: seven National Championships, 123 NFL Draft picks, and an athletic program that became a national beacon.
Translation: he has foresight, an eye for picking talents and he wins games, a lot.

“He continuously pressured the school to reinvest athletic earnings in better facilities, like the $288 million Alabama football facility, knowing that details made all the difference in a pre-NIL world. Saban also allowed NFL scouts behind the ropes at every practice, providing players with a draft grade at the end of each season. And Saban even convinced Alabama to take out (and pay for!) loss-of-value insurance policies on the team’s best players, enabling them to play each season (and bowl games) without the threat of injury.”
I mean, wow.
That is passion personified.
Saban’s transition to an analyst role with ESPN is a natural progression for someone of his caliber.

Most athletes usually take a pause after retirement from professional sports before embarking on their second leg as an analyst.
Look at Shaq, Charles Barkley and
His deep understanding of the game, coupled with his experience, offers a rich perspective that will undoubtedly enhance the viewing experience for college football enthusiasts.
His ability to articulate complex football strategies in an accessible manner will make him an invaluable asset to ESPN.

As Saban embarks on this new journey, his legacy at Alabama remains a towering testament to his coaching prowess.
His impact on the game extends beyond the trophies and titles.
It is etched in the lives of the players he coached and the fans who revered him.
I don’t know much about Nick, but I am certain his impact on football was immense.
I just wondered why he never bothered bringing his talents to the NFL.
