Ideas.
The world is filled with ideas.
But really, what do we do with them?
Today we talk about some of best ideas from past Startup Weekends as we march closer towards the largest Startup Weekend Global happening this weekend.
This is a 5-part series on the behind-the-scenes of Startup Weekend Global and what it takes to run a hackathon that has morphed into a global entrepreneurship juggernaut.
Part 3: Ideas
Startup Weekend itself was a simple idea — to change the world one weekend at a time.
We never intended for every company to become a unicorn.
An idea will remain just an idea in your head unless you act on it and execute.
Execution differentiates a good startup from just an idea.

I hear so many people exclaiming:
“But I have no good ideas!”
“What are some ideas I can work on?“
“How do I find and think of good ideas?”
“I can’t code! I need a technical CTO!”
Well, say hello to Startup Weekend.
That is precisely why you come to SW to meet like-minded people, potential cofounders, passionate builders and curious individuals who you can bounce ideas and manifest things.
SW is the very place where you turn concepts into companies.
So here is a useful tip I always employ back when I was participating in hackathons.
I looked for quality examples and great use cases in other industries.
Like crash bags in cars being used as crash bags for your phones, to protect them when you dropped them.
Silly idea, but you get it.
Sometimes, certain ideas in other industries can be brilliantly transmogrified into a working idea in a completely different industry.
Yes, it might be a silly idea, but at SW, you have the license to TRY!

I can almost hear participants asking:
Why should I share my ideas?
What if other people steal my ideas?
What if there are others doing exactly what I want to do?
Well, great!
It means your idea is validated, there are people out there feeling the same way and you guys are one step closer.
Combine forces, talk it out, share resources, collaborate, cohere and democratize.
SW is about the artful collaboration and cohesion of the best ideas and minds.
Don’t be afraid to live a little.
Remember, some of the startups that came out of Startup Weekends were just ideas back then.
Carousell, Zapier, EasyTaxi, Agenda EDU, Rover and many more went on make startup history.
They all started as ideas.

And yes, the idea may not survive the weekend, but the team will.
And the team will often persevere and go on to found some of the biggest startups we know of today.
Well, what are you waiting for?
Would you like to have the chance for front-row tickets to Startup Weekend Global?
Would you like to be able to observe the final pitching sessions?
Want to watch as the final teams battle it out and pit against the distinguished judges.
