Aavegotchi is a Tamagotchi-inspired game developed by Singapore-based Pixelcraft Studios that was released last 2020. Aavegotchi is developed using the Polygon network. Polygon is a two-layer scaling solution for the Ethereum network. Aavegotchi recently celebrated its 2-year anniversary and they’ve managed to survive the bear market by releasing game updates that added complexity to the game, like the release of Gotchiverse last March 2022. This update came with a new P2E system, enabling 5000 users to play and earn simultaneously in the metaverse while releasing actual asset ownership for everyone.
Before you can raise your pixelated ghost baby, you’ll need to summon it via a Portal. These can be acquired in an auction, Drop Ticket Raffle or at the marketplace. Once you acquire one, you can now summon 10 unique Aavegotchi. From there you will only choose one that appeals to you the most. Aavegotchis are born with traits. Just like how your traits define who you are as a person, these Aavegotchi traits will influence their rarity, performance in mini-games and wearables they can wear. Meanwhile, the wearables boost their traits and rarity score, enabling them to perform better in mini-games.
The mini-games that you and your Aavegotchi can participate in vary from random number generators (RNGs) to more immersive, player-controlled experiences. Each mini-game will utilize unique Aavegotchi traits to allow for balanced gaming. For instance, a HYPER-AGGRESSIVE Aavegotchi may perform well in a Fight Club but may not be ideal for a cake-baking mini-game. As of now, the available mini-games are only community created but official mini-games will be released soon.
Rarity Farming is a process where you attempt to raise the rarest Aavegotchi and get rewarded for doing so. You can engage in this by carefully selecting an Aavegotchi with rare traits during the summoning process, equipping wearables to modify the traits of your Aavegotchi and engaging in mini-games.
A core part of the game experience is spending time with your Aavegotchi and equipping them with wearables in rarity farming. To incentivize continuous and active engagement with the game's ecosystem, part of the revenue earned from portal sales and wearables will go towards rewarding the top rarity farmers. To that end, 40% of all earned tokens will be distributed back to players via player rewards.
Initially, there will be three categories of Player Rewards:
Top 100 Rarest Aavegotchis (by rarity farming)
Top 100 Kinship Scores (by interacting with your Aavegotchi)
Top 100 Experience (by playing mini-games)
The three categories will total up to 40% of all tokens earned. Exact percentages for each category will be confirmed before the start of each season of rarity farming and more categories will be added as the game continues to develop.
Aavegotchi is a throwback to the old Tamagotchi days. It features very simple pixel art and a cute little ghost to take care of. Caring for a pet can be an arduous task but Aavegotchi offers a glimpse into experiencing pet care in a very unique way. It may not be a pet simulator in the truest sense, but I think it has the capacity to put players in that same sort of mental space. The cute and colorful art of Aavegotchi where you take care of a pixel ghost may be quite wacky but it can be incredibly relaxing while engaging with its mini-games. Still, Aavegotchi may not be for everyone. Taking care and interacting with your Aavegotchi can be tedious and time-consuming for some.
The majority of games hang their hats on their stories or button-smashing mechanics, but games like this sometimes have a place at the table. Sure, you can play the most realistic fighting game ever produced, but you can also relax and (maybe) enjoy something a lot more unique, such as Aavegotchi. Following the last few weeks of AAA games, isn’t it a great opportunity to unwind and mess around with something lighter such as this?
