In Q2 2021, CryptoBlades showed its fangs and was successful in drawing a large number of players to the game. This coincided with the growth in popularity of Axie Infinity, Defi Pet, and Plant Vs. Undead. People were earning an absurd amount of money every day according to news reports that circulated everywhere at the time. But is the game still worthwhile in today's world after its peaks?
What is CryptoBlades?
CryptoBlades is a web-based NFT Clicker Roleplaying game that launched in June 2021. Created by Riveted Games and based on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) network. Playable directly from your computer without downloading an app thanks to its web-based system.
You can begin playing by minting characters and purchasing weapons that match your character's attributes. These can range to Lightning, Earth, Water, and Fire attributes. Each of them has a weakness; for instance, Fire dominates Earth but is defeated by Water. To counter and evaluate your characters before engaging in combat or a duel, this mechanism is displayed. As a result, players are encouraged to formulate their build to fit their play style.
Tokenomics and Earnings
For CryptoBlades, the in-game currency is called $SKILL. Using $SKILL, players can mint characters, forge weapons, and stake to grow. The purpose of this token is for players to focus on their trade and burn to balance the economy. Still, they failed to keep its value from decreasing greatly due to the introduction of Oracle and Regular Updates which lead to players milking the game.
Despite having its origins on BSC, the game has since been introduced to other networks in order to maximize player revenue, increase transaction efficiency, and enhance gameplay.
You only need to win a battle or sell an NFT to the market to earn $SKILL. The amount of money I’ve made while playing this game was equal to the gas fee spent just to enter battles and engage in combat. But I admit, I earned quite a sum of money when it first came out. Furthermore, you’ll forfeit your entry fee and gas money if you lose the battle. Substantial taxes are also associated with withdrawing $SKILL. Due to the claiming period, which lowers taxes every day until the 13th day, it pushes you to simply wait that long. Although it is not advisable, withdrawing on the first day of the cycle is an option. But since I am losing money rather than consistently making it, it’s left me unmotivated to keep going.
Gameplay
In essence, CryptoBlades is a fighting game that allows players to level up their characters and create incredible gear. Adventure Quest Worlds is the closest comparable example I can think of. Being a clicker game, it is as simple as it can get. Equip your chosen character with the appropriate weapon, then pay the gas and entry fee for the battle. After all of that, I find it to be monotonous because there isn't even a fighting animation; you just have to hit the battle button once and wait till you see a message board that says "You have won" or "You lost." It's easy enough to comprehend that gamers were delighted to acquire epic weapons rather than engage in rewarding gameplay at the time.
It's important to take stamina into account. It’s the factor that affects how many battles you can enter. Every five minutes, one regenerates. You will always start with 200 stamina, which can be utilized all at once. For the best results, I recommend fighting with intervals of 40 stamina. Set in a 2D, card-like NFT presentation it’s not as lovely as what was showcased in the game's initial trailer. Similar to Alien Worlds visuals, it will bring you to old web games. It doesn't amuse me; people want to play with the aim of having fun while doing so, but this game doesn't deliver on that promise. Maybe this is what they mean by "Play to Earn", where you just have to click and ta-da, you earn.
Conclusion
CryptoBlades is a clickable RPG that puts revenue ahead of good gameplay. Not providing the competitiveness or essence of an RPG that players seek. Furthermore, with reduced benefits and high taxes, it's unlikely to catch the interest of the players again. With these two things put together, I would not consider this title to be worthwhile.
