With the rise of Axie Infinity last May 2021, there are many games that aspire to reach its height or even exceed it. This includes Pikaster, which has adorable creatures and a gameplay style similar to Axie Infinity. Now the real question is, will it be able to push itself to stand out among others and prove to be called the next Axie Infinity?
Pikaster is a KuCoin and Polygon-based strategy card battle game. They started this game in September 2021 and released the open beta for all players in May 2022. Using a dual-triple token consisting of $MLS (governance & reward) and $RBS/$SRBS (Utility). I'm not sure how they'd implement such tokenomics, but we should be cautious as it is new. It's great that it can be played on PC or mobile, opening more options for new players. The way they’re handling free-to-play reminds me of Axie Infinity: Origin. Providing the first three basic NFTs. The distinction between the two will be highlighted in the following paragraphs.
In addition to the standard PVE and PVP game types, Pikaster now has guild play, which lets you team up with guildmates or friends to fight real-time opponents.
Contrary to Axie, a player can send three to five Pikasters onto the field of battle. Three characters can be deployed at once while 2 extras act as your replacement, lengthening the game. Each round, players receive 3 cards and 2 energy. Understanding your team and the cards will be crucial to your strategy. Defeat every Pikaster on your opponent's team to win.
Pikaster takes advantage of evolution and upgrades feature. Upgrade refers to using $MLS to raise your pikaster's stats, whilst Evolution refers to changing your character into a new form while also increasing its stats. Undoubtedly a new approach to strengthen your team. They probably mimic Axie's wrath because, if you build up enough rage to launch a critical attack, rage becomes the norm. If you're an axie player, you're used to just having a synchronized team and playing without upgrading.
The most fundamental ways to make money are by winning matches, ranking highest, breeding, and selling on the market. Including a convenient in-game wallet. A player that has limited experience with account registration can still participate with no problem thanks to this wallet's capacity to deposit and withdraw tokens efficiently. It left me walking away impressed.
Pikaster resembles Axie in terms of artwork, gameplay, and even the graphics and functionality. To say it will be a title that surpasses other NFT games is a bit of an exaggeration. True, they added more features and functionalities, but that was all. The token's value continues to fall, leading me to believe that it will enter another death spiral like other NFT games. I’ll still try the free access though but will never invest in it personally.
