Meta-Governance: $254k USDC allocated for governance tools and operations.
Ecosystem: $836k USDC allocated for ecosystem initiatives, grants, and hackathons.

Proposals are the means by which changes are made to the status quo. There are two types of proposals:
Social Proposals: Off-chain proposals seeking the DAO’s agreement on social considerations that cannot be enforced on-chain.
Executable Proposals: On-chain proposals that execute code related to the ENS Protocol and ENS DAO smart contracts, as voted on by the DAO.
Proposal Threshold: A minimum of 10k $ENS is required to submit social proposals, while 100k $ENS is needed for executable proposals.

ENS Labs announced a major milestone: Google has integrated ENS Domains into its search capabilities. Users can now search any .eth name, like “vitalik.eth,” on Google and view associated wallet balances and blockchain data directly in the search results. This integration simplifies access to Web3 and makes it easier for mainstream users to explore decentralized finance (DeFi). Google pulls balance and transaction details from Etherscan, offering seamless blockchain accessibility to the public.
A new contract scheme will enable proxy NFTs to simulate voting, allowing split delegation within a single transaction, making governance more dynamic and accessible. Code is complete and in final testing phases. The goal is to release this feature soon to simplify participation in ENS governance.
Members of ENS Labs, including the Developer Relations Team, participated in the latest ETHGlobal event and awarded a $10,000 prize pool at ETHGlobal San Francisco for projects using ENS.

Mely.eth highlighted the 2024 integration of ENS with PayPal and Venmo, simplifying crypto transactions by allowing users to transfer cryptocurrency using their ENS names. This collaboration introduces millions of users to decentralized finance (DeFi) while making crypto addresses user-friendly. ENS aims to become the global naming system for financial transactions, with over 2 million names registered and 750 integrations already in place.
Devin Finzer, co-founder and CEO of OpenSea, responded to a user request by adding ENS domains to the search bar. Users can now easily search for ENS domains like “crypto.eth” directly on OpenSea.
Destiner.eth introduced an ENS Renewals module, allowing smart accounts to automatically renew ENS domains they own. The module works by installing it in a 7579-compatible account, where users can specify domains and renewal criteria. The module could lead to broader use cases, like automated payroll and token conversions. An open challenge remains on how to incentivize external accounts to execute these modules. Luc.eth revealed that the upcoming World App v3 by Worldcoin will feature native ENS subnamesunder the world.id domain. This update allows users to create personalized subnames, such as “@tiago.world.id,” making identity verification and credential management more seamless and decentralized within the app.
Nalin announced that their Ethereum faucet for Sepolia and Holesky has integrated ENS. Now, users can simply enter an ENS address to receive faucet drips of ETH, enhancing accessibility and ease of use within Ethereum’s testnets. This integration simplifies obtaining testnet ETH for developers and users, bringing ENS’s utility further into Ethereum’s ecosystem.
The Devcon website is now fully decentralized, hosted on Swarm, ENS, and eth.limo. The Swarm team developed a Decentralized Improvement Proposal (DIP) to align the Devcon website with Web3’s ethos.
@estmcmxci published an article on implementing the P256 precompile in the EVM, highlighting its potential to improve Ethereum’s compatibility with WebAuthn, DNSSEC, and ENS. This integration is key to unifying identity frameworks in Web3, aligning with existing web standards. Read more here.

The Meta-Governance Working Group provides governance oversight and support for working group operations through DAO tooling and governance initiatives.
The proposed compensation structure for Term 6 includes $4,000 USDC per month for stewards and $5,500 for lead stewards, alongside a new $ENS token distribution equal to their USDC earnings, vested over two years. Tokens are distributed based on the price on July 1st, and 25% will have vested by that date. The proposal will be put to a DAO vote.
The ENS Open Ledger is a newly launched platform for tracking and visualizing DAO budgets. Through an interactive Sankey diagram, users can view fund allocations and transfers across working groups and categories.
The tool allows filtering by quarter or year, providing a detailed, intuitive view of ENS financial data, including recipient information. Charts and data are updated every two hours and can be exported for further analysis. Explore the Open Ledger here.

ENS Data (pugson.eth)
Pugson.eth received a 10,000 USDC grant to maintain the ENS Data API, which now handles over 70 million lookups. The grant covers infrastructure costs and performance improvements, with updates like linking ENS names to Farcaster, gradient avatars, and IPFS media rendering. Monthly costs have risen to $175.
Fast ENS API for Web3 (frolic.eth)
Frolic.eth was awarded 15,000 USDC to enhance the fast ENS API, handling millions of requests monthly. The grant supports rising infrastructure costs (~$350/month) and a major API rewrite to improve performance and introduce a strongly typed SDK. Yearly expenses are expected to be around $4,200.
The ENS Ecosystem Working Group is participating in Gitcoin Grants Round 22 with a 70k USDC matching pool. This round supports projects building on ENS, using Gitcoin’s quadratic funding model, which rewards both the total amount raised and the number of contributors.

Eth.limo has completed the migration of the eth.link service to its platform, now handling 64% of traffic. User growth surged, with over 4,000 new contenthashes added in August for dWebsites. The Public Goods Working Group supports the Ethereum ecosystem by identifying and funding open-source development.
Octant, spun out of the Gollum Foundation, helps fund public goods by staking 100k ETH and donating the yield. Octant is exploring collaborations with ENS for community events and themed grant epochs. They have 1,000 users with a 50% participation rate and are running a raffle to fund projects each round. A demo day is planned for October 24th.

The Ethereum Follow Protocol (EFP) is now live on mainnet (ethfollow.xyz), adding a decentralized onchain social graph to Ethereum’s identity stack, integrating ENS. EFP lets users follow and tag Ethereum accounts, enabling relationships to be displayed in any crypto app.
ZKP2P has launched its digital goods marketplace, enabling Web2 domain trading on Base with faster settlements, lower fees, and zkEmail-secured transactions. You can also set your DNS name as your ENS name, enhancing onchain functionality.

Unruggable has launched Unruggable Gateways, providing a secure, trustless method for verifying data from Layer 2 (L2) rollups on Layer 1 (L1) Ethereum. This innovation ensures data retrieved from L2 is final and reliable on L1.
Unruggable Gateways fetch data from rollups and provide inclusion proofs, verifying that data exists within the chain’s structure. The proof is checked against the block’s state root and verified through Merkle Tries, ensuring data integrity.
Rollups finalize state in different ways:
Fault-proof systems contest state roots.
Zero-Knowledge rollups use validity proofs for state transitions.
Finalization time varies, with fault-proof systems potentially taking a week, while others finalize faster with lower gas costs. Unruggable Gateways are adaptable to evolving L2 needs, offering robust data verification and finalization solutions for trustless applications on Ethereum.

3DNS, the first ICANN-accredited onchain domain registrar, integrates traditional DNS with ENS through their .box project, allowing users to manage identities and payments across Web3. They are expanding identity solutions for Optimism and Base. A grant of 118,750 USDC was approved for audit reimbursements and recognition of 3DNS’s contributions, including the success of my.box and Superchain initiatives.

The report details how the Ethereum Follow Protocol (EFP) used ENS DAO funding in Q3 2024. EFP launched on mainnet in September, with 4.4k lists created and 100k list operations. The project focuses on full ENS integration and decentralization through its web3 social graph protocol.

The Public Goods Working Group supports the Ethereum ecosystem by identifying and funding open-source development.
Marco Galluccio from Urbe Campus presented updates from ETH Warsaw, which took place from September 5-6, with over 25 attendees and 10 hours of workshops. ETH Warsaw was a test for future events, with lessons being applied to ETH Rome (Sep 30 - Oct 3) and Devcon in Bangkok. The Devcon collaboration with a coding school partner will offer pre-event experiences in Bangkok. Discussions on bringing people to frENS Day and ETH Rome payments were also mentioned.

@alisha.eth presented updates on the Firefly project, an open-source Ethereum hardware wallet and gaming device. They aim to distribute at least 500 units before and during Devcon. A developer bounty program is being created, with milestone tracking available on Questbook. The biggest cost issue is with the 3D-printed cases. Discussions are ongoing about the effectiveness of composable bags for shipping. Users can try out the firmware on Chrome via Firefly Box.

Calendar: Public Access / Access with Gmail
This proposal seeks to reimburse ENS Labs for $1,218,669.76 USDC in legal fees incurred during the eth.link litigation. ENS Labs maintained ownership and control of the domain after successfully resolving the lawsuit in August 2024. The legal action was necessary to protect critical ENS infrastructure. The reimbursement will be transferred from the ENS DAO treasury following a previously passed proposal, ensuring that the financial burden of this legal action does not fall solely on ENS Labs, particularly since their actions benefited the entire ENS community.

Agora proposes adding a ProposalBond mechanism to the ENS DAO Governor. This aims to lower the proposal threshold, making it more accessible while ensuring that failed proposals with sufficient “Against No Return” votes forfeit their bond. The proposal is currently open for community feedback and, if approved by the DAO, will proceed to an executable vote on Snapshot.

Karpatkey has introduced an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) for the ENS Endowment. This proposal aims to establish guidelines for managing Endowment assets, ensuring the long-term viability of ENS. The IPS will define responsibilities, investment goals, and performance benchmarks. The feedback period runs from September 10 to October 1, 2024, followed by a Snapshot vote to formalize the IPS.

Social Proposals: Offchain proposals seeking the DAO’s agreement on social considerations that cannot be enforced onchain.
Executable Proposals: Onchain proposals that execute code related to the ENS Protocol and ENS DAO smart contracts, as voted on by the DAO.
Proposal Threshold: A minimum of 10k and 100k $ENS is required to submit executable proposals.

ENS Labs has officially launched the frENSday.eth website in preparation for the inaugural event, scheduled for November 11, 2024, at Devcon in Bangkok, Thailand. The event will feature discussions on cutting-edge topics, including L2 Infrastructure, Consumer Applications, Identity & Account Abstraction advancements, and ENSv2. Attendees can participate in person or via livestream, making it accessible to a global audience.
Tickets for frENSday are now live. In-person applications are being processed on a rolling basis, but a livestream option is available for those unable to attend physically. frENSday aims to bring the ENS community together for the first time.
Keynote speakers include Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, Nick Johnson, Lead Developer at ENS Labs, and Steve Ptucha from Venmo/PayPal. Medha Kothari, Product Manager at Uniswap Labs, and Paulio, CEO of 3DNS, will also be joining the lineup, bringing their expertise to the event.
More speakers will be announced as the event approaches.
ENS is now integrated with PayPal and Venmo, allowing users to simplify crypto transfers by entering their ENS name. This feature eliminates the need for copying long wallet addresses and enables secure, user-friendly transactions. An Address Book feature also allows users to save and recall frequently used ENS names and wallet addresses for faster transfers. This service is currently available in the U.S.
In August, ENS launched the official site for frENSday, a beautifully illustrated event page. Other updates include a refreshed design for the Reclaim site, allowing users from the 2017 auction to claim unclaimed ETH. ENS also introduced identity verification through Dentity, linking ENS names to real-world identities and social profiles. Several UI/UX improvements were made, including the ability to clear search history, enhanced names table behavior, and added language support for Ukrainian and Russian. There are now over 11 million cb.id registrations. A recent deep dive by Meta-Governance Steward @estmcmxci highlights how Coinbase has leveraged ENS to create branded, user-friendly blockchain profiles. This integration has been a significant factor in driving the growth of cb.id registrations and has laid the foundation for onchain profiles on Base.eth.

eth.cd has launched a new feature that allows users to send tips directly through ENS profiles. This feature makes it easy to support and show appreciation to fellow ENS users by sending tips with just a few clicks. Users can visit profiles on eth.cd by appending their .eth as a second-level domain (2LD) to send tips and spread goodwill across the Web3 space.
The eth.link gateway is now officially powered by eth.limo, reviving its role as a key ENS gateway for decentralized websites. Originally developed by the ENS team and later maintained by Cloudflare, eth.link had faced legal controversies, performance issues, and limited community engagement.
With the transition to eth.limo, users can now expect enhanced features, including:

The Ethereum Follow Protocol (EFP) has published its full API documentation, enabling developers to integrate EFP into their applications. The API allows access to user follower and following counts, supporting both Ethereum addresses and ENS names. Developers can experiment with testnet data, with mainnet data integration expected at launch next week. This documentation streamlines app integration with EFP’s social metrics within the Ethereum ecosystem.
The latest release of the POAP Home app includes a feature allowing collectors to claim a free ENS subname. The option is available for users whose POAP Home app is linked to a collection that does not already have an ENS name.
A form has been set up to gather questions for the ENS DAO working groups panel, taking place during frENSday at Devcon week. Whether attending in person or not, participants are encouraged to submit their questions in advance to contribute to the discussion.
Unruggable launched its open-source codebase, providing an end-to-end solution for trustlessly reading data from L2 rollups. It supports multiple chains, including Arbitrum, Base, Zora, and ZKSync, among others. The solution simplifies ENS name data resolution across rollup chains with an easy-to-integrate API. Developers and builders can join Unruggable’s Discord for discussions and tech support while using their open-source gateways for ENS on Layer 2.

Agora recommended using OpenZeppelin as the auditor for the ENS Governor’s proposal bond. They suggest trusted firms like CodeArena or Trail of Bits for further security audits. Discussions on delegation issues with Coinbase are ongoing, focusing on redelegating users due to wallet access challenges. The social proposal for the Governor upgrade is expected to go live soon, with audits to follow once passed.
Danch @danchquixote introduced the ENS Ledger, a quarterly visualization tool for ENS DAO transactions displayed in a Sankey chart format. The tool allows users to download charts updated every two hours and add recipient information to enhance robustness. A repository will be published upon completion, though the app currently lacks mobile optimization.

The Public Goods Working Group supports the Ethereum ecosystem by identifying and funding open-source development.
ETH Mexico took place over the past weekend with support from Public Goods sponsors. The event saw attendees from across Mexico, with 84% being non-locals. Leading up to the main event, several community gatherings were held. Feedback was gathered to plan for improvements at ETH Mexico 2025. An impact report will be sent to Public Goods Stewards in approximately three weeks.

Borderless Africa, a founder-residency forum, focuses on advanced-stage projects across the continent. Currently, 16 startups are working on solutions for on-off ramps, savings, payments, and infrastructure. Grants from Public Goods have been allocated to support Devcon attendance scholarships. The collective is also considering DAO governance participation, with plans to explore delegation mechanics.
Large Grants: Approximately $45k has been disbursed, with grantees meeting milestones and on track to close out by year-end. The status of grantees can be viewed on Questbook, a grant management platform used to track progress and manage payouts.
Small Grants: No decision has been made regarding the date for the next round, but plans are in place to run one by the end of the month.
