Native USDC To Launch On OP Mainnet
Circle revealed the six new blockchains that will now support native USDC, which include OP Mainnet, Base, and Polygon. Native USDC is the official version of the stablecoin that is compatible with Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol. Bridged versions of USDC have been re-labeled to “USDC.e.” The Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol allows USDC to be natively burned on a source chain and natively minted on a destination chain. The deployment on the new chains will go live starting in September. Native USDC is already live on Ethereum Mainnet, Arbitrum One, and Avalanche.
Zora Network released a Chrome extension for searching on Ethereum. The tool allows users to execute a web3 query directly from their browser. Users simply enter “+++” followed by their query to search for content via Zora. Users can search by phrases or enter an ENS domain to be directed to the addresses Zora profile. The tool supports search results across Ethereum, Optimism, Base, PGN, and Zora Network. The search engine functionality is also integrated into the search bar on Zora.co.
Snapshot now supports the use of streaming tokens locked in Sablier for proposal voting. Users can now access voting power from tokens that are not yet withdrawable from their stream. Sablier uses a collection of Snapshot Strategies to compute the voting power of assets stored in active streams. Snapshot is an offchain governance voting platform that enables gasless proposal voting for DAOs.
A series of U.S. agencies have indicted Tornado Cash developers with allegations of money laundering, sanctions violations, and the operation of an unlicensed money-transmitting business. OFAC also added one of the developers to its Specially Designated Nationals list. The privacy tool was sanctioned by OFAC one year ago. Crypto policy non-profit Coin Center commented on the action, stating that they “don’t see how the limited factual allegations offered by the indictment show any clear violations.” Coin Center also highlighted FinCEN’s 2019 virtual currently guidance, which states that an anonymizing software provider is not a money transmitter.
Crypto scammers are using ad networks to carry out phishing attacks on Google Ads. Typically, scammers set up Google Ads to promote phishing websites, often using domain names that are slightly misspelled versions of the targeted domain. However, scammers are now using ad networks to display genuine domain names in Google Ads, which then redirect users to phishing sites. Third-party ad networks are platforms that offer targeted ad services based on user activity and employ traceable links. 0xngmi, a developer from Defillama, cautioned users about the new tactic, pointing out that Google has not taken action to remove phishing ads targeting Defillama.
