The first round of ETH LATAM BA grants has been completed successfully! This represents a milestone in the Argentine community and sets a strong precedent for the history, support and funding of public goods initiatives, so necessary and useful in the web3 ecosystem.

This round had more than 150 voters and $25,000 DAI in matched funds! 🥳

ETH LATAM BA was the first major Ethereum event in the history of Argentina, the general coordination team got in touch with the Ethereum Foundation's Quadratic Funding team and after some calls, we all decided to collaborate to  jointly carry forward the organization and accomplishment of the Quadratic Funding rounds for ETH LATAM Buenos Aires, first round exclusively for Argentina!

The first precedent in LATAM have been the QF rounds in Honduras. Time was running fast so without wasting time, we got down to work.

The ETH LATAM Buenos Aires event would be held on August 11th, 12th and 13th. Therefore, we had to work with a parallel schedule for the rounds.

The idea was to take advantage of the estimated audience of 4000 people to spread the rounds.

Aug 3th: Announcement form for applicants

Aug 5th: What is QF?

The first step was to announce the round in order to receive applications from interested projects. For this, it was necessary to work in parallel on communications that would reinforce concepts such as "quadratic funding", "quadratic voting", "public goods" and everything related to the previous rounds and the reason for this initiative. All of this would help us to improve receiving applications from teams aligned with these concepts, or at least help us to reduce the application of projects that did not classify as public goods.

Aug 10: QF ETH LATAM BA QF Web Announcement

Working as fast as we could, between July 31st and August 8th our team set up the website and deployed the contracts to get the QF round ready. Due to scheduling issues and in order to not overshadow the launch, we announced everything on August 10th and organized a TwitterSpaces to reach a wider audience.

Aug 15: MACI key sent.

Once the projects were listed, the ETH LATAM face-to-face event was held over 3 days. During those days we informed the audience about the voting and we collected their emails to send them the MACI Key. We also made an informative Twitter thread explaining how to vote. At the event closing, in front of thousands of people, we announced the selected teams and emphasized the importance of this round for our country and region.

Aug 22: Announcement of results

After the community voting, we finally had the result of the ballot! You can check all the details and statistics in the following document.

We try to be as close as possible to the applicants to help them sort out obstacles. Filling the form fields is a crucial moment and depending on how you write about your project will change how it will be perceived by whoever is filtering the applications. An application that inspires confidence, team unity and trajectory will stand out from an application that leaves blank fields or that is not detailed enough about their activities or plans for the future.

We received more than 35 applications for this round but unfortunately, only 13 qualified as public goods. This concept is being installed as a narrative in LATAM and the world, and many teams applied to the funding round thinking that their for-profit initiative could qualify.

We made a video consultation to solve doubts for applicants and voters and we also organized a Twitter Spaces explaining what is QF / QV and how to apply.

Community projects helped create tutorials to explain how to vote for their favorite project.

“The application process was relatively simple, since basically the purpose of the round and the requirements requested for the teams were a good fit for our organization. We are also satisfied with the voting system implemented. We were pleased with the support received from the community during the process. As our first funding, the funds received are important for the growth of L2 in Spanish and represent a turning point for our organization”.

“The Buenos Aires Quadratic Funding round was much simpler. It was the first time that MEC applied in a funding process and it helped us to structure what we have been doing.

The funds are very useful. Thanks to them, we are carrying out the trademark registration, our web page, covering the travel expenses for the volunteers who help us in the events (as an incentive) and it gave us the possibility of organizing a day of workshops in December.

All projects were contacted to inform them of the results, congratulate them and reconfirm the wallet provided in the application form.

Once the wallet was confirmed, a test amount of 0.5 DAI was sent to them. If the beneficiary team responded confirming receipt of the test amount, the funds were sent in full.

Regarding the allocation of each team, the funds were distributed in DAI in the Polygon network, the same network in which the projects were voted. The distribution was made chronologically according to the email responses received:

The following section is aimed at anyone who is interested in knowing how we carry out the process of organizing as a team and coordinating with the EF QF team. But above all, it is aimed at other leaders from LATAM and the world who want to organize an exclusive round in their country and do not know where to start. Some friction points we experienced at the beginning:

Understand the scope and implications of setting up the round: Initially, upon receiving the Ethereum Foundation proposal, non-technical members of our team started calling for developers who wanted to volunteer to join the initiative. Everything would have been easier from the beginning if we had started by telling them that the creation of the site involved cloning a repository and not creating everything from scratch! The ETH LATAM team was very busy at the time because of the IRL event, so after several meetings, we understood that we just had to clone the repository and we were always going to have assistance from the Ethereum Foundation QF team. When we called developers, they would flee in terror because they believed they had to develop from scratch the interface and the technology that clr.fund currently provides.

What we learned: prioritize communication with the QF team and review the scope of the project point by point.

Find the right team to run the QF round and align with the schedule: The key roles for our team were two semi-senior devs (0xTobias y Rorry),  a marketing and comms role (Lola), a graphic designer (Pacha) and general coordination (Romina).

In communities with few members or new members, it may be a challenge to find volunteers to join the initiative ad honorem. If you want to organize a round for your region, you can count on the support of ETH LATAM and the members who have gone through the experience of organizing a funding round. You’re not alone 🤗

What we learned: there are fundamental roles for a good organization of QF rounds, and teamwork is necessary; the responsibility cannot fall on one or two people.

Deciding how to avoid a Sybil attack: We had to decide what mechanism to use so that no one would try to sabotage the ballot but at the same time, do it with the available resources. We thought about using POAP as an identifier for wallets attending the event, but not everyone is familiar with the protocol. Other previous events had used printed MACI key delivery, but this made us think that it was expensive to print thousands of papers with different keys and we had little time to find the graphic studio that wanted to do it. Other protocols such as Proof of Humanity or BrightID were solutions a bit further away. In the end, we decided to send emails to the event attendees. More than 4000 people attended the event on August 11, 12 and 13. It was the most economical and practical solution, but it would lead us to another problem that we had to overcome...

What we learned: The best thing to do is to simplify the process taking into account the target of your event or community and based on that, devise a plan to reduce friction to a minimum, either through tutorials, live explanations, broadcasting, etc.

The complexity of finding a suitable email marketing system: the email previously used (hello@ethlatam.org) had been banned from 5 email marketing companies for mentioning words like "cryptocurrencies", "blockchain", "Ethereum". Over a period of days we were testing several platforms we finally found one to let us send MACI keys. For this, the communication was very carefully drafted to avoid a new ban. But we also had to deal with another challenge: many people had given their consent to be contacted but others had not, which reduced the communication base considerably. This put us in the position of having to launch a new form for people to give their express consent to be contacted by the ballots.

What we learned: The wording of an informative email should be thoroughly thought out and reviewed. The user must be informed of the extent of their consent to be contacted for a vote/donation.

• Creation of multisig for the reception of funds destined for QF: due to the imminence of the dates and the event itself, only one person did the KYC and received the funds in his personal account. This action didn’t cause any problems and the distribution of funds was carried out correctly. But for security and transparency reasons we recommend creating and configuring a multisig wallet for the movement of funds -in case the local team is responsible for the final distribution of funds to the applicant teams.

• Creation of a protocol in case of non-response of teams who applied: How should we act with project teams that do not respond when it comes to allocating funds? Should we wait for a prudent deadline? How to determine this deadline? Who should have the decision? These are questions that the local team should answer with the support and dialogue of the Ethereum Foundation QF / QV team.

Undoubtedly, the organization of these rounds left us with lessons learned but also the joy of contributing to the financing of the local ecosystem of public goods. The application of the majority of educational and community projects caught our attention. We hope to see the fruits in the next round and that the results will be translated into public goods applications that build protocols, dashboards, research, etc.

ETH LATAM BA fue el primer gran evento de Ethereum en la historia de Argentina, el equipo de coordinación general se puso en contacto con el equipo de Quadratic Funding de la Fundación Ethereum y luego de algunas llamadas, todos decidimos colaborar para llevar adelante en conjunto la organización y realización de las rondas de Financiamiento Cuadrático para ETH LATAM Buenos Aires, ¡primera ronda exclusiva para Argentina!

El primer antecedente en LATAM ha sido la ronda de QF en Honduras. El tiempo corría rápido así que sin perder tiempo, nos pusimos manos a la obra.

El evento ETH LATAM Buenos Aires se celebraría los días 11, 12 y 13 de agosto. Por lo tanto, tuvimos que trabajar con un cronograma paralelo para las rondas.

La idea era aprovechar la audiencia estimada de 4000 personas para divulgar sobre la ronda.

3 de agosto: Anuncio de la ronda

5 de agosto: ¿Qué es el QF?

El primer paso fue anunciar la ronda para recibir solicitudes de proyectos interesados. Para ello, fue necesario trabajar en paralelo en comunicaciones que reforzaran conceptos como "financiación cuadrática", "votación cuadrática", "bienes públicos" y todo lo relacionado con las rondas anteriores y el motivo de esta iniciativa. Todo esto nos ayudaría a mejorar la recepción de solicitudes de equipos alineados con estos conceptos, o al menos nos ayudaría a reducir la solicitud de proyectos que no se clasificaran como bienes públicos.

10 de agosto: Lanzamiento de la web de QF ETH LATAM BA

Trabajando tan rápido como pudimos, entre el 31 de julio y el 8 de agosto nuestro equipo configuró el sitio web y desplegó los contratos para tener lista la ronda QF. Por cuestiones de agenda y para no opacar el lanzamiento, anunciamos todo el 10 de agosto y organizamos un TwitterSpaces para llegar a un público más amplio.

15 de agosto: Envío de la clave MACI.

Una vez listados los proyectos, el evento presencial de ETH LATAM se celebró durante 3 días. Durante esos días informamos a los asistentes sobre la votación y recogimos sus correos electrónicos para enviarles la Clave MACI, una clave queue le permitía votar a sus proyectos favoritos y evitaba el ataque Sybil. También hicimos un hilo informativo en Twitter explicando cómo votar. En el cierre del evento, frente a miles de personas, anunciamos los equipos seleccionados y resaltamos la importancia de esta ronda para nuestro país y región.

22 de agosto: Anuncio de los resultados

Tras la votación de la comunidad, ¡por fin tenemos el resultado de la votación! Puedes consultar todos los detalles y estadísticas en el siguiente documento.

Intentamos estar lo más cerca posible de los solicitantes para ayudarles a resolver los obstáculos. Rellenar los campos del formulario es un momento crucial y dependiendo de cómo escribas sobre tu proyecto cambiará cómo lo percibirá quien esté filtrando las solicitudes. Una solicitud que inspire confianza, unidad de equipo y trayectoria destacará sobre otra que deje campos en blanco o que no detalle lo suficiente sus actividades o planes de futuro.

Recibimos más de 35 solicitudes para esta ronda pero, lamentablemente, sólo 13 se calificaron como bienes públicos. Este concepto se está instalando como una narrativa en LATAM y el mundo, y muchos equipos se presentaron a la ronda de financiamiento pensando que su iniciativa con fines de lucro podría calificar.

Hicimos un vídeo de consulta para resolver dudas a solicitantes y votantes y también organizamos un Twitter Spaces explicando qué es QF / QV y cómo aplicar.

Los proyectos de la comunidad ayudaron a crear tutoriales para explicar cómo votar por su proyecto favorito.

"El proceso de solicitud fue relativamente sencillo, ya que básicamente el objetivo de la ronda y los requisitos solicitados para los equipos encajaban bien con nuestra organización. También estamos satisfechos con el sistema de votación implantado. Nos complació el apoyo recibido de la comunidad durante el proceso. La siguiente sección está dirigida a cualquier persona que esté interesada en saber cómo llevamos a cabo el proceso de organización como equipo y de coordinación con el equipo de EF QF. Pero sobre todo, está dirigido a otros líderes de LATAM y del mundo que quieran organizar una ronda exclusiva en su país y no sepan por dónde empezar. Algunos puntos de fricción que experimentamos al principio:

Entender el alcance y las implicancias de armar la ronda: Al principio, tras recibir la propuesta de la Fundación Ethereum, los miembros no técnicos de nuestro equipo empezaron a llamar a desarrolladores que quisieran ofrecerse voluntarios para unirse a la iniciativa. ¡Todo habría sido más fácil desde el principio si hubiéramos empezado por decirles que la creación del sitio implicaba clonar un repositorio y no crear todo desde cero! El equipo de ETH LATAM estaba muy ocupado en ese momento debido al evento IRL, así que después de varias reuniones, entendimos que sólo teníamos que clonar el repositorio y que siempre íbamos a contar con la ayuda del equipo QF de la Fundación Ethereum. Cuando llamábamos a los desarrolladores, huían despavoridos porque creían que tenían que desarrollar desde cero la interfaz y la tecnología que clr.fund proporciona actualmente.

Lo que aprendimos: priorizar la comunicación con el equipo de QF y revisar el alcance del proyecto punto por punto.

Encontrar el equipo adecuado para llevar a cabo la ronda QF y ajustarse al calendario: Las funciones clave de nuestro equipo eran dos desarrolladores semi-senior (0xTobias y Rorry), una función de marketing y comunicación (Lola), un diseñador gráfico (Pacha) y la coordinación general (Romina).

En comunidades con pocos miembros o miembros nuevos, puede ser un reto encontrar voluntarios que se unan a la iniciativa ad honorem. Si quieres organizar una ronda para tu región, puedes contar con el apoyo de ETH LATAM y de los miembros que han pasado por la experiencia de organizar una ronda de financiación. No estás solo 🤗

Lo que aprendimos: hay roles fundamentales para una buena organización de rondas QF, y es necesario el trabajo en equipo; la responsabilidad no puede recaer en una o dos personas.

Otros protocolos como Proof of Humanity o BrightID eran soluciones un poco más lejanas. Al final, decidimos enviar correos electrónicos a los asistentes al evento. Más de 4000 personas asistieron al evento los días 11, 12 y 13 de agosto. Era la solución más económica y práctica, pero nos llevaría a otro problema que teníamos que superar...

Lo que aprendimos: Lo mejor es simplificar el proceso teniendo en cuenta el objetivo de tu evento o comunidad y, en función de eso, idear un plan para reducir la fricción al mínimo, ya sea mediante tutoriales, explicaciones en directo, retransmisiones, etc.

La complejidad de encontrar un sistema de marketing por correo electrónico adecuado: el correo electrónico utilizado anteriormente (hello@ethlatam.org) había sido vetado por 5 empresas de mailing por mencionar palabras como "criptomonedas", "blockchain", "Ethereum". Durante varios días estuvimos probando varias plataformas y finalmente encontramos una que nos permitía enviar claves MACI. Para ello, la comunicación se redactó con mucho cuidado para evitar una nueva prohibición. Pero también tuvimos que enfrentarnos a otro reto: muchas personas habían dado su consentimiento para que nos pusiéramos en contacto con ellas, pero otras no, lo que redujo considerablemente la base de comunicación. Esto nos puso en la tesitura de tener que lanzar un nuevo formulario para que la gente diera su consentimiento expreso a ser contactada por las papeletas.

Lo que aprendimos: La redacción de un correo electrónico informativo debe pensarse y revisarse a fondo. El usuario debe ser informado del alcance de su consentimiento para ser contactado para una votación/donación.

Creación de multisig para la recepción de fondos destinados a QF: debido a la inminencia de las fechas y del propio evento, sólo una persona realizó el KYC y recibió los fondos en su cuenta personal. Esta acción no causó ningún problema y la distribución de los fondos se realizó correctamente. Pero por razones de seguridad y transparencia recomendamos crear y configurar una dirección multisig para el movimiento de fondos - en caso de que el equipo local sea responsable de la distribución final de fondos a los equipos solicitantes.

Creación de un protocolo en caso de no respuesta de los equipos solicitantes: ¿Cómo debemos actuar con los equipos que no responden a la hora de asignar los fondos? ¿Debemos esperar un plazo prudencial? ¿Cómo determinar este plazo? ¿Quién debe tomar la decisión? Son preguntas que el equipo local debe responder con el apoyo y el diálogo del equipo QF / QV de la Fundación Ethereum.

Sin duda, la organización de estas rondas nos dejó lecciones aprendidas pero también la alegría de contribuir a la financiación del ecosistema local de bienes públicos. Nos llamó la atención la aplicación de la mayoría de los proyectos educativos y comunitarios. Esperamos ver los frutos en la próxima ronda y que los resultados se traduzcan en aplicaciones de bienes públicos que construyan protocolos, cuadros de mando, investigación, etc.

The following section is aimed at anyone who is interested in knowing how we carry out the process of organizing as a team and coordinating with the EF QF team. But above all, it is aimed at other leaders from LATAM and the world who want to organize an exclusive round in their country and do not know where to start. Some friction points we experienced at the beginning:

Understand the scope and implications of setting up the round: Initially, upon receiving the Ethereum Foundation proposal, non-technical members of our team started calling for developers who wanted to volunteer to join the initiative. Everything would have been easier from the beginning if we had started by telling them that the creation of the site involved cloning a repository and not creating everything from scratch! The ETH LATAM team was very busy at the time because of the IRL event, so after several meetings, we understood that we just had to clone the repository and we were always going to have assistance from the Ethereum Foundation QF team. When we called developers, they would flee in terror because they believed they had to develop from scratch the interface and the technology that clr.fund currently provides.

What we learned: prioritize communication with the QF team and review the scope of the project point by point.

Find the right team to run the QF round and align with the schedule: The key roles for our team were two semi-senior devs (0xTobias y Rorry),  a marketing and comms role (Lola), a graphic designer (Pacha) and general coordination (Romina).

In communities with few members or new members, it may be a challenge to find volunteers to join the initiative ad honorem. If you want to organize a round for your region, you can count on the support of ETH LATAM and the members who have gone through the experience of organizing a funding round. You’re not alone 🤗

What we learned: there are fundamental roles for a good organization of QF rounds, and teamwork is necessary; the responsibility cannot fall on one or two people.

Deciding how to avoid a Sybil attack: We had to decide what mechanism to use so that no one would try to sabotage the ballot but at the same time, do it with the available resources. We thought about using POAP as an identifier for wallets attending the event, but not everyone is familiar with the protocol. Other previous events had used printed MACI key delivery, but this made us think that it was expensive to print thousands of papers with different keys and we had little time to find the graphic studio that wanted to do it. Other protocols such as Proof of Humanity or BrightID were solutions a bit further away. In the end, we decided to send emails to the event attendees. More than 4000 people attended the event on August 11, 12 and 13. It was the most economical and practical solution, but it would lead us to another problem that we had to overcome...

What we learned: The best thing to do is to simplify the process taking into account the target of your event or community and based on that, devise a plan to reduce friction to a minimum, either through tutorials, live explanations, broadcasting, etc.

The complexity of finding a suitable email marketing system: the email previously used (hello@ethlatam.org) had been banned from 5 email marketing companies for mentioning words like "cryptocurrencies", "blockchain", "Ethereum". Over a period of days we were testing several platforms we finally found one to let us send MACI keys. For this, the communication was very carefully drafted to avoid a new ban. But we also had to deal with another challenge: many people had given their consent to be contacted but others had not, which reduced the communication base considerably. This put us in the position of having to launch a new form for people to give their express consent to be contacted by the ballots.

What we learned: The wording of an informative email should be thoroughly thought out and reviewed. The user must be informed of the extent of their consent to be contacted for a vote/donation.

• Creation of multisig for the reception of funds destined for QF: due to the imminence of the dates and the event itself, only one person did the KYC and received the funds in his personal account. This action didn’t cause any problems and the distribution of funds was carried out correctly. But for security and transparency reasons we recommend creating and configuring a multisig wallet for the movement of funds -in case the local team is responsible for the final distribution of funds to the applicant teams.

• Creation of a protocol in case of non-response of teams who applied: How should we act with project teams that do not respond when it comes to allocating funds? Should we wait for a prudent deadline? How to determine this deadline? Who should have the decision? These are questions that the local team should answer with the support and dialogue of the Ethereum Foundation QF / QV team.

Undoubtedly, the organization of these rounds left us with lessons learned but also the joy of contributing to the financing of the local ecosystem of public goods. The application of the majority of educational and community projects caught our attention. We hope to see the fruits in the next round and that the results will be translated into public goods applications that build protocols, dashboards, research, etc.

¡La primera ronda de financiamiento cuadrático de ETH LATAM BA se ha completado con éxito! Esto representa un hito en la comunidad argentina y sienta un fuerte precedente para la historia, el apoyo y la financiación de iniciativas de bien público, tan necesarias y útiles en el ecosistema web3.

¡Esta ronda contó con más de 150 votantes y 25.000 $DAI en fondos distribuidos! 🥳

ETH LATAM BA fue el primer gran evento de Ethereum en la historia de Argentina, el equipo de coordinación general se puso en contacto con el equipo de Quadratic Funding de la Fundación Ethereum y luego de algunas llamadas, todos decidimos colaborar para llevar adelante en conjunto la organización y realización de las rondas de Financiamiento Cuadrático para ETH LATAM Buenos Aires, ¡primera ronda exclusiva para Argentina!

El primer antecedente en LATAM ha sido la ronda de QF en Honduras. El tiempo corría rápido así que sin perder tiempo, nos pusimos manos a la obra.

El evento ETH LATAM Buenos Aires se celebraría los días 11, 12 y 13 de agosto. Por lo tanto, tuvimos que trabajar con un cronograma paralelo para las rondas.

La idea era aprovechar la audiencia estimada de 4000 personas para divulgar sobre la ronda.

3 de agosto: Anuncio de la ronda

5 de agosto: ¿Qué es el QF?

El primer paso fue anunciar la ronda para recibir solicitudes de proyectos interesados. Para ello, fue necesario trabajar en paralelo en comunicaciones que reforzaran conceptos como "financiación cuadrática", "votación cuadrática", "bienes públicos" y todo lo relacionado con las rondas anteriores y el motivo de esta iniciativa. Todo esto nos ayudaría a mejorar la recepción de solicitudes de equipos alineados con estos conceptos, o al menos nos ayudaría a reducir la solicitud de proyectos que no se clasificaran como bienes públicos.

10 de agosto: Lanzamiento de la web de QF ETH LATAM BA

Trabajando tan rápido como pudimos, entre el 31 de julio y el 8 de agosto nuestro equipo configuró el sitio web y desplegó los contratos para tener lista la ronda QF. Por cuestiones de agenda y para no opacar el lanzamiento, anunciamos todo el 10 de agosto y organizamos un TwitterSpaces para llegar a un público más amplio.

15 de agosto: Envío de la clave MACI.

Una vez listados los proyectos, el evento presencial de ETH LATAM se celebró durante 3 días. Durante esos días informamos a los asistentes sobre la votación y recogimos sus correos electrónicos para enviarles la Clave MACI, una clave queue le permitía votar a sus proyectos favoritos y evitaba el ataque Sybil. También hicimos un hilo informativo en Twitter explicando cómo votar. En el cierre del evento, frente a miles de personas, anunciamos los equipos seleccionados y resaltamos la importancia de esta ronda para nuestro país y región.

22 de agosto: Anuncio de los resultados

Tras la votación de la comunidad, ¡por fin tenemos el resultado de la votación! Puedes consultar todos los detalles y estadísticas en el siguiente documento.

Intentamos estar lo más cerca posible de los solicitantes para ayudarles a resolver los obstáculos. Rellenar los campos del formulario es un momento crucial y dependiendo de cómo escribas sobre tu proyecto cambiará cómo lo percibirá quien esté filtrando las solicitudes. Una solicitud que inspire confianza, unidad de equipo y trayectoria destacará sobre otra que deje campos en blanco o que no detalle lo suficiente sus actividades o planes de futuro.

Recibimos más de 35 solicitudes para esta ronda pero, lamentablemente, sólo 13 se calificaron como bienes públicos. Este concepto se está instalando como una narrativa en LATAM y el mundo, y muchos equipos se presentaron a la ronda de financiamiento pensando que su iniciativa con fines de lucro podría calificar.

Hicimos un vídeo de consulta para resolver dudas a solicitantes y votantes y también organizamos un Twitter Spaces explicando qué es QF / QV y cómo aplicar.

Los proyectos de la comunidad ayudaron a crear tutoriales para explicar cómo votar por su proyecto favorito.

0xJoxes de L2 en Español nos dio su opinión sobre su experiencia en el proceso de aplicación a la ronda:

"El proceso de solicitud fue relativamente sencillo, ya que básicamente el objetivo de la ronda y los requisitos solicitados para los equipos encajaban bien con nuestra organización. También estamos satisfechos con el sistema de votación implantado. Nos complació el apoyo recibido de la comunidad durante el proceso. Al ser nuestra primera financiación, los fondos recibidos son importantes para el crecimiento de L2 en español y representan un punto de inflexión para nuestra organización".

Candu, co líder de Mujeres en Crypto nos dio su opinión sobre su experiencia en la ronda QF en ETH LATAM BA:

"La ronda de financiamiento cuadrático de Buenos Aires fue mucho más sencilla. Fue la primera vez que MEC aplicó en un proceso de financiamiento y nos ayudó a estructurar lo que venimos haciendo.

Los fondos son muy útiles. Gracias a ellos estamos realizando el registro de la marca, nuestra página web, cubriendo los gastos de viaje de los voluntarios que nos ayudan en los eventos (como incentivo) y nos dio la posibilidad de organizar una jornada de talleres en diciembre”.

Nos contactamos con todos los proyectos para informarles de los resultados, felicitarles y reconfirmar la dirección brindada en el formulation, para evitar la pérdida de fondos.

Una vez confirmada la wallet, se les enviaba un importe de prueba de 0,5 DAI. Si el equipo beneficiario respondía confirmando la recepción del importe de prueba, se enviaban los fondos en su totalidad.

En el siguiente documento puedes revisar los detalles de los votos, la correspondencia de cada proyecto y las cantidades asignadas a cada equipo.

En cuanto a la asignación de cada equipo, los fondos se distribuyó DAI en la red Polygon, la misma red en la que se votaron los proyectos. La distribución se hizo cronológicamente según las respuestas recibidas por correo electrónico:

La siguiente sección está dirigida a cualquier persona que esté interesada en saber cómo llevamos a cabo el proceso de organización como equipo y de coordinación con el equipo de EF QF. Pero sobre todo, está dirigido a otros líderes de LATAM y del mundo que quieran organizar una ronda exclusiva en su país y no sepan por dónde empezar. Algunos puntos de fricción que experimentamos al principio:

Entender el alcance y las implicancias de armar la ronda: Al principio, tras recibir la propuesta de la Fundación Ethereum, los miembros no técnicos de nuestro equipo empezaron a llamar a desarrolladores que quisieran ofrecerse voluntarios para unirse a la iniciativa. ¡Todo habría sido más fácil desde el principio si hubiéramos empezado por decirles que la creación del sitio implicaba clonar un repositorio y no crear todo desde cero! El equipo de ETH LATAM estaba muy ocupado en ese momento debido al evento IRL, así que después de varias reuniones, entendimos que sólo teníamos que clonar el repositorio y que siempre íbamos a contar con la ayuda del equipo QF de la Fundación Ethereum. Cuando llamábamos a los desarrolladores, huían despavoridos porque creían que tenían que desarrollar desde cero la interfaz y la tecnología que clr.fund proporciona actualmente.

Lo que aprendimos: priorizar la comunicación con el equipo de QF y revisar el alcance del proyecto punto por punto.

Encontrar el equipo adecuado para llevar a cabo la ronda QF y ajustarse al calendario: Las funciones clave de nuestro equipo eran dos desarrolladores semi-senior (0xTobias y Rorry), una función de marketing y comunicación (Lola), un diseñador gráfico (Pacha) y la coordinación general (Romina).

En comunidades con pocos miembros o miembros nuevos, puede ser un reto encontrar voluntarios que se unan a la iniciativa ad honorem. Si quieres organizar una ronda para tu región, puedes contar con el apoyo de ETH LATAM y de los miembros que han pasado por la experiencia de organizar una ronda de financiación. No estás solo 🤗

Lo que aprendimos: hay roles fundamentales para una buena organización de rondas QF, y es necesario el trabajo en equipo; la responsabilidad no puede recaer en una o dos personas.

Decidir cómo evitar un ataque Sybil: Tuvimos que decidir qué mecanismo utilizar para que nadie intentara sabotear la votación pero, al mismo tiempo, hacerlo con los recursos disponibles. Pensamos en utilizar POAP como identificador para wallets que asistieran al evento, pero no todo el mundo está familiarizado con el protocolo. Otros eventos anteriores habían utilizado la entrega de claves MACI impresas, pero esto nos hizo pensar que era caro imprimir miles de papeles con diferentes claves y teníamos poco tiempo para encontrar el estudio gráfico que quisiera hacerlo. Otros protocolos como Proof of Humanity o BrightID eran soluciones un poco más lejanas. Al final, decidimos enviar correos electrónicos a los asistentes al evento. Más de 4000 personas asistieron al evento los días 11, 12 y 13 de agosto. Era la solución más económica y práctica, pero nos llevaría a otro problema que teníamos que superar...

Lo que aprendimos: Lo mejor es simplificar el proceso teniendo en cuenta el objetivo de tu evento o comunidad y, en función de eso, idear un plan para reducir la fricción al mínimo, ya sea mediante tutoriales, explicaciones en directo, retransmisiones, etc.

La complejidad de encontrar un sistema de marketing por correo electrónico adecuado: el correo electrónico utilizado anteriormente (hello@ethlatam.org) había sido vetado por 5 empresas de mailing por mencionar palabras como "criptomonedas", "blockchain", "Ethereum". Durante varios días estuvimos probando varias plataformas y finalmente encontramos una que nos permitía enviar claves MACI. Para ello, la comunicación se redactó con mucho cuidado para evitar una nueva prohibición. Pero también tuvimos que enfrentarnos a otro reto: muchas personas habían dado su consentimiento para que nos pusiéramos en contacto con ellas, pero otras no, lo que redujo considerablemente la base de comunicación. Esto nos puso en la tesitura de tener que lanzar un nuevo formulario para que la gente diera su consentimiento expreso a ser contactada por las papeletas.

Lo que aprendimos: La redacción de un correo electrónico informativo debe pensarse y revisarse a fondo. El usuario debe ser informado del alcance de su consentimiento para ser contactado para una votación/donación.

Creación de multisig para la recepción de fondos destinados a QF: debido a la inminencia de las fechas y del propio evento, sólo una persona realizó el KYC y recibió los fondos en su cuenta personal. Esta acción no causó ningún problema y la distribución de los fondos se realizó correctamente. Pero por razones de seguridad y transparencia recomendamos crear y configurar una dirección multisig para el movimiento de fondos - en caso de que el equipo local sea responsable de la distribución final de fondos a los equipos solicitantes.

Creación de un protocolo en caso de no respuesta de los equipos solicitantes: ¿Cómo debemos actuar con los equipos que no responden a la hora de asignar los fondos? ¿Debemos esperar un plazo prudencial? ¿Cómo determinar este plazo? ¿Quién debe tomar la decisión? Son preguntas que el equipo local debe responder con el apoyo y el diálogo del equipo QF / QV de la Fundación Ethereum.

Sin duda, la organización de estas rondas nos dejó lecciones aprendidas pero también la alegría de contribuir a la financiación del ecosistema local de bienes públicos. Nos llamó la atención la aplicación de la mayoría de los proyectos educativos y comunitarios. Esperamos ver los frutos en la próxima ronda y que los resultados se traduzcan en aplicaciones de bienes públicos que construyan protocolos, cuadros de mando, investigación, etc.
