Orca Protocol is a DAO implementation tool and scaling solution that aims to change the way DAOs are created and managed. It accomplishes this by dividing a larger DAO into smaller modular working groups called "pods". Each pod has its own Gnosis Safe multi-signature wallet and utilizes membership NFTs to verify the identities of its members. Each pod that is created through Orca Protocol is registered with the ENS and is designated its own .xyz page where users can view the structure of the pod and the members it contains.
Each pod is designed to host a working group that focuses on a specific purpose. This purpose could be a committee working towards a shared goal, a project, or a more generalized subgroup of members. Each pod has a designated number of admins that manage the pod and the members within the pod. These admins can either be actual users, smart contracts, or even other pods. The admin has the ability to add or remove members directly, whereas the members can submit a proposal to add or remove a member. The protocol has a basic UI that allows members and admins to create simple proposals and vote on them with the voting platform of their choosing (eg. Tally).
The Orca Protocol team is currently working on a feature that would allow members and admins to set membership requirements for a pod.
Nation3 aims to build a digital nation-state on the blockchain by organizing an ecosystem of different DAOs and services that would accommodate the various functions of a nation-state. Its main DAO is managed by different guilds each with a specialized purpose (graphic design, research, community organization, etc). It also makes use of membership NFTs to verify the "citizenship" of a member. Orca Protocol could easily accommodate this structure and serve to make the DAO more modular and flexible.
Another benefit of the Orca Protocol is that it eliminates the need for token voting mechanisms that are often common in DAOs today. Because voting and decision-making happen on the pod level instead of the overall DAO level, it allows the DAO to govern itself and grow in scale without compromising decentralization. This in turn reduces the risks of both governance attacks and voter inequality. It also lowers the cost of entry for prospective citizens who may not be able to afford the token.
Orca Protocol is currently in closed Beta and its public Alpha is to be determined.
