User Research for a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) communications platform
Currently, many DAOs rely on traditional platforms like Discord for communication. However, Discord's private corporate ownership contradicts DAO principles of decentralization. Through this project, I aimed to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Discord and other legacy tools to design an alternative blockchain-distributed communications platform.

Hello there! This is my very first substack article. By way of introduction, I am Block Mage (@BlockMageDAO on Twitter) and I am an avid blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiast. I am especially passionate about DAOs and the potential they have to create a more fair and egalitarian society. I’m currently learning more about the web3/defi/DAO ecosystem and teaching myself how to code smart contracts in Solidity. I don’t necessarily aim to become a developer, but I feel Solidity is a good skill to have under my belt regardless.
Before signing up for substack, I helped summarize articles about defi for ScribeDAO, a DAO focused on propagating information across social media. Check them out here if you’re interested. I’ve decided that I want to write more personalized content and expand my skills as a writer. It’s difficult to adequately express myself when I’m limited to 280 characters. Also, writing threads on Twitter is a pain in the arse.
I’ll mostly be using this substack as a blog, writing thought pieces regarding the defi ecosystem, giving occasional updates, discussing information regarding projects and research I’m involved in, and sometimes just rambling to get my ideas out on paper. I did buy a web domain earlier this year and I plan to set up a website with a more personalized blog, but for now, substack should suffice.
Make sure to follow my Twitter at @BlockMageDAO for more content and updates about new articles. Toodles!
