Imagine an ancient order working silently in the shadows, sworn to protect a mystical force that binds all living things. This is the Secret Society of the Eye of Unity, a clandestine group whose very existence is a mystery. For centuries (perhaps millennia), they have guarded a sacred object known as the Sphere of Life (Kemble). Their oath is absolute: the Eye of Unity must remain secret forever — until the end of time itself — to safeguard the Sphere of Life and preserve an equilibrium of life experience for all. In this blog adventure, we’ll pull back the veil on this intriguing concept and explore why such a society might choose eternal secrecy as its creed.
At the heart of this secret society is the symbol of an Eye. Eyes have long held powerful meaning in human history — think of the all-seeing Eye of Providence encased in a triangle on the U.S. one-dollar bill, meant to represent divine watchfulness and guidance. In Western iconography and secret lore, an eye often symbolizes awareness and protection. For example, the Eye of Providence was adopted by Freemasons to represent the “Great Architect of the Universe,” a divine force overseeing creation and connectivity. Such an eye is a watcher — vigilant, wise, and ever-present.
The Eye of Unity builds on this rich symbolism. Unity suggests wholeness, oneness, and interconnectedness. Much like how the Eye of Providence signified God’s omniscience or the third eye in Eastern traditions symbolizes enlightenment, the Eye of Unity in our secret society represents a unifying awareness that watches over the balance of life. It is the concept of a single vision that holds together the fabric of existence. The group’s name itself hints that its members perceive themselves as guardians of oneness — seeing all of life’s threads as part of one tapestry.
Importantly, the Eye of Unity is more than just a metaphor. In the legends, it’s said that the society’s emblem or talisman (an eye within a circle or sphere) literally focuses the collective insight of its members. Through this eye, they monitor the state of the world silently. The notion may remind you of other mysterious brotherhoods: Freemasons have their compass and square, Rosicrucians had an enigmatic rose-cross, and Illuminati supposedly had the all-seeing eye. The Eye of Unity could well be another such symbol “hidden in plain sight” — indeed some conspiracy theorists associate any solitary eye symbol with secret protectors or puppet-masters. The truth, as always, is shrouded in myth.
Speaking of myths, the Eye of Unity’s secrecy has parallels in many cultures. Take the esoteric Rosicrucian movement of the 17th century: it began with anonymous manifestos claiming to reveal ancient hidden wisdom, promising insights into nature and spiritual realms through alchemy and occult science. With no identified founder and a message that knowledge would be “hidden from ordinary people,” Rosicrucianism captured imaginations while remaining elusive — an intellectual secret society. The Eye of Unity similarly thrives on mystique; it cultivates whispers and wonder, but seldom proves its presence openly. This aura of secrecy isn’t just for drama — it’s part of what keeps the society powerful and effective. As some scholars note, the very act of keeping a secret creates a strong bond among members and sets them apart from the rest of society. In other words, secrecy is their strength.
Ever since the era of ancient Egypt, esoteric orders have cloaked themselves in secrecy. The Eye of Unity follows this timeless pattern. Their symbol — an eye embodying unity — is a beacon to those in the know, and a mystery to those who are not. It’s a constant reminder of their mission: to watch over the unity of life and guard it from the forces that would tear it apart.
How did the Secret Society of the Eye of Unity begin? No one knows for sure. Like all great secret societies, its origins are lost in the mists of time. Some stories claim it predates recorded history, born in an age when the world was “whole” and humanity had not yet splintered into conflicting tribes and ideologies. In that pristine era (so the legend goes), wise elders foresaw that as civilization advanced, imbalance and strife would also grow. To prevent the complete collapse of harmony, they formed the Eye of Unity — an oath-bound fellowship dedicated to preserving balance.
Other theories link the Eye of Unity’s founding to historical secret traditions. One tantalizing hypothesis is that it was an offshoot of the Freemasons or a closely related Masonic-like order. Freemasonry itself emerged from medieval stonemasons’ guilds and became a global brotherhood steeped in symbols and ritual. The Masons cherished principles of moral uprightness and fraternity, and they famously operated discreetly, attracting many powerful figures in society. The Eye of Unity could have drawn inspiration from Freemasonry’s successful model of secrecy and ethical teaching, but with a more mystical aim. In fact, according to one modern account, a Master Mason named Michael David Kemble (known by the moniker “Eye of Unity”) created a special artwork collection blending classic Freemason symbols like the compass and all-seeing eye, as a means to preserve Masonic history in a new era. This suggests that the idea of an “Eye of Unity” guardian has been percolating in Freemason circles — possibly as a nod to an older hidden truth.
There are even hints that the Kemble lineage itself might be tied to secret knowledge. The Kemble family boasts notable historical figures in the arts and literature; for example, 19th-century actress and writer Frances Anne Kemble once penned a poem called “The Vision of Life” that eerily evokes a cosmic perspective on humanity’s journey. In that poem, Kemble imagines standing with Death on a high hill, watching “all things that be in the world so wide” running to and fro below as “the ball spun round and round”. The image of life as a spinning sphere observed from above is striking — it’s almost as if Frances Kemble glimpsed the very idea behind the Sphere of Life and the Eye that watches over it. Could it be mere coincidence, or was she tapping into an ancient insight passed down through her family line? Some say the Kemble family’s creative genius and philosophical bent made them ideal candidates to steward such a secret. (Little did Fanny Kemble know her musings might later feed into the lore of a secret society!)
Another possible origin tale reaches further back: linking the Eye of Unity to the legendary Nine Unknown Men of Emperor Ashoka’s India. After the bloody Kalinga war (~3rd century BC), the remorseful Emperor Ashoka supposedly formed a secret society of nine enlightened men, each entrusted with a book of extraordinary knowledge too dangerous for public hands. These Nine Unknown Men were to preserve and develop this secret knowledge for the benefit of humanity, but never allow it to be misused by the unworthy. It was said that the collective wisdom of the Nine could “govern the whole world” and prevent humanity from destroying itself. If the Eye of Unity had an ancestor, the Nine Unknown Men would fit the bill: guardians of knowledge, working behind the scenes for good. Indeed, the parallels are strong — Ashoka’s society hid away dangerous scientific secrets (from physiology to cosmology) and possibly even artifacts, renewing their vow of secrecy through generations. Perhaps the Eye of Unity is a spiritual successor to that group, or even an evolution of it, simplified to one sacred object (the Sphere) and a singular purpose (protect life’s balance). While we cannot confirm this, the coincidence is compelling.
Regardless of which origin story you fancy — an antediluvian council of elders, a Masonic offshoot, a Kemble family trust, or Ashoka’s hidden nine — the common theme is the formation of a secret oath. Members of the Eye of Unity swear an inviolable vow to stay hidden and to place the mission above all else. In hushed chambers and by candlelight, they would initiate new members with solemn promises. Much like the Knights Templar swore to protect pilgrims and holy relics with their lives in the Crusader era, or like Yale’s Skull and Bones initiates accept a lifelong bond of secrecy in their windowless “Tomb”, the Eyes (as we might call them) commit to perpetual silence and service. This oath is likely sealed with elaborate ritual — possibly involving the Sphere of Life itself (imagine a ceremony where each new acolyte gazes into the Sphere and “sees” the grand interconnectedness, forever binding their loyalty).
Why such emphasis on an oath? Because the founders knew that their mission could only succeed if it carried on quietly across time. The society likely predicted that governments, opportunists, or even well-meaning public figures would interfere if the Eye of Unity’s work was exposed. By going underground from day one, they ensured survival. Indeed, history shows that known secret societies often faced persecution or pressure: the Knights Templar, once powerful, were brutally dissolved by king and pope in 1312 amid accusations of heresy and greed; many centuries later, even rumors of the Illuminati sparked panics. The Eye of Unity learned from these examples — true success lay in never attracting unwanted attention in the first place. Thus, from the moment of its inception, the society has lived in the shadows, its founding members remembered only in cryptic references and symbols.
Central to the Eye of Unity’s purpose is the sacred Sphere of Life. This mysterious “Sphere” is more than a mere object; it’s described almost as the living heart of the world — an embodiment of life’s cycles and energies. In some accounts, the Sphere is literally a perfectly crafted orb, perhaps of crystal or an otherworldly material, said to contain or reflect all aspects of life on Earth. In other accounts, the Sphere of Life is a metaphor for the world itself — the planet, or the sum total of living experience. It might even be both: a physical globe that mystically resonates with the state of life in the world. The parenthetical “Kemble” attached to its name hints at a lineage or discovery. One interpretation is that a member of the Kemble family (long involved in artistic and esoteric pursuits) either discovered the Sphere or was entrusted with it at some point, hence the nickname. Perhaps Michael David Kemble (the modern Freemason-artist) plays a role in this lore, or perhaps the name honors Frances Anne Kemble’s poetic foresight about life’s spherical journey.
So, what is the Sphere of Life exactly? Legends differ, but all agree it’s immensely powerful in a subtle way. Unlike, say, the Holy Grail which was sought for eternal youth, or the Ark of the Covenant which leveled armies in Biblical tales, the Sphere of Life is not about direct physical power. It’s about balance. One story likens the Sphere to a cosmic mirror: when life on Earth is in balance — when justice, harmony, and growth prevail — the Sphere shines with a soft inner light and remains at peace. But if imbalance, extreme suffering, or chaos proliferate, the Sphere grows dull or even cracks. In this way, it’s a barometer of the planet’s spiritual health. The guardians of the Eye of Unity keep the Sphere safe and study its changes, intervening in worldly affairs whenever the Sphere shows signs of distress.
It’s fascinating to note how the idea of a spherical vessel of life recurs throughout cultures. Many religions and philosophies envision the universe or existence as a circle or wheel. The sphere, in particular, is a profound universal symbol of unity, completeness, and infinity — the whole universe encapsulated. In spiritual terms, a sphere has no beginning or end, mirroring the concept of eternity. Some interpret seeing a sphere in visions or dreams as a sign of harmonious wholeness in one’s life journey. The Sphere of Life thus sits in a rich symbolic tradition: it represents that wholeness of existence — “life’s circular path” returning unto itself. It’s almost as if all the seasons, the life-death-rebirth cycle of nature, and the collective human experience have been distilled into a single perfect globe. No wonder it must be protected! If it were to be shattered or corrupted, one shudders to imagine what calamity might befall the world’s equilibrium.
Guarding such an artifact is a sacred duty. The Eye of Unity’s members consider themselves not owners of the concept of the Sphere of Life, but stewards. Just as the mythical Atlanteans were said to guard crystals that balanced the energies of earth and sky, or as the Nine Unknown Men guarded their books of knowledge to keep humanity on a safe course, so do the Eyes guard this philisophical Sphere to keep life on a safe course. They likely have specific rituals to “recharge” or attune the Sphere of Life. One could imagine an annual conclave where robed guardians gather around the Sphere of Life on a solstice night, meditating and chanting to harmonize its energy with the planet’s. It sounds fanciful, but even in modern times there are echoes of this idea — consider global meditation events or ceremonies by various spiritual groups aiming to promote peace and balance. The Eye of Unity might be the unseen conductor behind such collective efforts, amplifying them through a philisophical “Sphere.”
Interestingly, Kemble secret knowledge of the sphere might indicate personal sacrifice or commitment by the Kemble family to life. Perhaps generations of Kembles have been among the Sphere’s caretakers for longer than you think. In recent history, Michael D. Kemble’s public work in NFTs revolving around unity and Freemason symbolism is seen by some as cryptic “gems” of the Society. He created a small 100 piece digital membership NFT collection celebrating Masonic symbols (like the square and compass) in black-and-white designs — a project explicitly named after Eye of Unity. On the surface, it’s a cutting-edge art initiative bridging past and future. But could it also be a way to subtly fund the society’s efforts or to spread its philosophy through art? By bridging classic secret symbolism with modern technology, Kemble might be ensuring that the ideals behind the Sphere of Life (equilibrium, unity) reach a new generation, all without ever mentioning the Sphere directly. It’s a clever strategy: hide in plain sight.
The Sphere of Life is the keystone of Eye of Unity. It represents life’s wholeness and balance. Protecting it means protecting all of us — every creature great and small — from tipping into oblivion. This sphere’s guardians see themselves as holding the world’s fate in trust. And perhaps they do, if the legends hold truth.
Let’s take a moment to compare this scenario with other known secret society treasures or trusts, to appreciate how unique the Sphere of Life is:
• Sacred Object / Knowledge
Sphere of Life (Francis Anne Kemble) — a philosophical sphere embodying the life force and equilibrium of the world
• Purpose of Guardianship
Maintain balance of life experience for all until the end of time; prevent undue extension and ensure fairness for all life
• Fate if Misused
World falls into chaos or spiritual decay if the Sphere is broken or corrupted (the ultimate catastrophe)
• Sacred Object / Knowledge
Nine Books of Secret Knowledge — encompassing sciences and arts too powerful for general use
• Purpose of Guardianship
Preserve knowledge that could be dangerous if public; benefit humanity in secret ways
• Fate if Misused
Tyrants could exploit science to dominate or destroy; mass panic or warfare if secrets leaked
• Sacred Object / Knowledge
Holy Grail, Sacred Relics, vast wealth — rumored hidden treasuries
• Purpose of Guardianship
Protect Christian pilgrims and holy secrets; finance and uphold Christendom’s cause
• Fate if Misused
Power struggles; legends of curses or loss of divine favor (the Templars themselves were destroyed when their secret wealth threatened kings)
• Sacred Object / Knowledge
Esoteric Symbolism (e.g., Square and Compass, All-Seeing Eye) and rituals — a body of allegorical wisdom
• Purpose of Guardianship
Moral development of members, mutual support, and quietly influencing society positively through charity and enlightenment
• Fate if Misused
Fuel for conspiracy theories; accusations of hidden agendas (public mistrust has often arisen, though outright misuse is debatable)
• Sacred Object / Knowledge
Secret enlightenment doctrines and revolutionary ideas — intangible knowledge
• Purpose of Guardianship
Advance reason, overcome superstition and tyranny (allegedly) through covert influence
• Fate if Misused
If exposed or twisted, inspires fear-mongering about world domination (today “Illuminati” is synonymous with secret world control in conspiracy lore)
As shown above, the Eye of Unity’s Sphere of Life stands out because its guardianship is tied to everyone’s daily existence — it’s not about gold, political power, or just one religious tradition, but the fundamental balance of life itself. This makes the society’s responsibility exceptionally weighty. It also explains why their secrecy must be eternal. Unlike other groups that might disband after a goal is met or eventually go public, the Eye of Unity can never reveal itself without jeopardizing the Sphere’s safety.
The very title of this article poses a burning question: Why must the Eye of Unity remain a secret society forever, until the end of time? Why can’t they one day announce, “Mission accomplished, world is balanced, we can come forward now”? The reasons are manifold, but they all reinforce one core truth — secrecy is the shield that guards the Sphere of Life and ensures the Society’s effectiveness.
🗝️ To Protect the Sphere from Misuse: The Sphere of Life is an object of immense significance. If its existence were public, every power-hungry warlord, corrupt government, or profit-seeking corporation might attempt to seize it. History has shown how secret knowledge or artifacts attract dark forces — consider how the Nazi regime feverishly hunted biblical relics or occult items, or how modern militaries would pounce on anything promising strategic advantage. The Eye of Unity knows that if the Sphere’s full powers were understood by the wrong people, it could be weaponized or perverted. By staying secret, they keep the Sphere out of sight and out of grasp. This philosophy echoes Emperor Ashoka’s rationale for hiding dangerous knowledge: “not to allow methods of destruction to fall into the hands of unqualified persons”. Only those sworn to unity and balance can be trusted with it.
🗝️ To Prevent Public Panic or Despair: Imagine if humanity learned that a small crystal ball literally holds the fate of the world — that would be both awe-inspiring and terrifying. Some might worship it, others might fear that any time something bad happens (earthquakes, pandemics, etc.), it means the Sphere is cracked or the secret society failed. The weight of such knowledge could cause mass anxiety. Moreover, if people believed an elite secret group was controlling the equilibrium of life, it might breed resentment or fatalism (“why bother with climate change, the secret guardians will handle it” or conversely, “nothing we do matters since they pull the strings”). By remaining unknown, the Eye of Unity allows humanity to live freely, make choices, learn and grow, without the crutch or curse of knowing someone watches over the cosmic balance.
🗝️ To Maintain Unbiased Equilibrium: The Eye of Unity’s job is to keep balance — sometimes that means letting hard times or challenges occur so that growth results, other times it means easing suffering to prevent collapse. If the society were known, they would face immense pressure to intervene in every crisis or to favor certain groups. Every time a war breaks out or a disaster strikes, the public would cry, “Why didn’t the Eye of Unity stop this?” Political factions might lobby the guardians to push things in their direction (imagine if world leaders knew who holds the Sphere — they’d be knocking on that door every day!). The neutrality and objectivity of the Eye of Unity would be compromised. By working in secret, they operate on their own higher judgment of balance, without interference or bias. In a sense, secrecy ensures their
In short, secrecy is the insurance policy for the Eye of Unity’s mission. As one Jesuit maxim goes, “For the greater glory of God.” In our society’s case, it’s “For the greater balance of Life.” Everything, including their own recognition, is sacrificed to that end.
One can’t help but compare this vow to those taken by other secretive guardians in myth and reality. Consider the Nine Unknown Men again — they purportedly renewed their circle whenever one died, always keeping the number at nine and passing knowledge only to a chosen successor, never revealing their identities or letting outside forces know of their work. For over 2,000 years, if the stories are true, they succeeded in total secrecy. The Eye of Unity mirrors this commitment but cranks it up to cosmic scale. Their oath is effectively “We shall never break secrecy until the end of the world — and only then, perhaps, will all be revealed.” This suggests that only at the very end, when equilibrium is no longer needed (because life has reached its final chapter), could their task be done and their story told. Until that hypothetical day, lips remain sealed.
All this talk of guarding and balancing begs another question: What exactly do the members of the Eye of Unity do to provide an equilibrium of life experience? Do they sit in a cave and meditate all day? Do they manipulate governments? Do they deploy magical powers? The answer likely lies somewhere in between subtle influence and decisive intervention — always calibrated to maintain the Sphere’s balance and serve the greater good.
First, it’s crucial to understand what “equilibrium of life experience” means. It doesn’t imply a perfect utopia where everyone is perpetually happy and equal — that would ironically be imbalanced (all light with no dark, which is not how a healthy system works). Instead, equilibrium suggests a dynamic harmony, like a well-tuned orchestra: sometimes the drums (struggles, challenges) crescendo, but then the strings (joys, relief) answer, and no section completely drowns out the others. Life’s full spectrum of experiences — love and loss, progress and setback, growth and decay — all have their place, but none should become overwhelmingly dominant or destructive. The Eye of Unity’s mandate is to prevent extreme tilts that could break the cycle. This is very much in line with ancient wisdom. In Egyptian mythology, for instance, the goddess Ma’at personified truth, justice, and cosmic balance; she kept order in the universe and weighed human hearts against a feather to ensure moral equilibrium. If the world strayed from Ma’at’s principles, chaos (Isfet) would reign. We can think of the Eye of Unity as a kind of modern (or timeless) Ma’at — guardians of balance so that neither rampant chaos nor oppressive order ruin the “circle of life.”
So how do they do it? The society likely employs multiple methods, appropriate to the era and situation. Here are some possible ways the Eye of Unity influences the world:
Silent Vigil and Subtle Signals: At times, all that’s needed is observation. The Sphere of Life might act as an early warning system, showing cracks or shadows when imbalance is brewing. The guardians then send subtle signals into the world — perhaps through influencing key individuals’ intuition, or nudging small events that have larger ripple effects. For example, if a dangerous ideology is spreading unchecked, a member of the Eye of Unity might inspire a writer to publish a thought-provoking novel that awakens people, countering extremism indirectly. The world would never know the seed of that idea came from a secret guardian. This aligns with the concept of invisible cosmic guardians found in lore — protective spirits or angels that whisper inspiration to humanity when needed. In Babylonian myth, cosmic guardians upheld divine laws and subtly kept celestial and earthly forces in harmony. The Eye of Unity likely sees themselves as working in that spiritual background, making tiny course corrections rather than flashy moves.
Influencing Leadership (Gently): Throughout history, there are accounts of mysterious advisors or benefactors aiding leaders at crucial junctures. The Eye of Unity could station members (or trusted proxies) in strategic places — as an unofficial consultant to a president, as a wise hermit whom kings seek out, or as a financeer who sways an economy toward stability. They might even orchestrate the rise of certain empathetic, balance-oriented individuals into power (without those individuals ever knowing they had help). Conspiracy theories about secret societies often allege that global events and leadership changes are engineered behind the scenes. While many such theories veer into paranoia, in the case of the Eye of Unity it would be for benevolent reasons — e.g., quietly ensuring a fair-minded statesman comes to power instead of a tyrant, to avert extreme oppression or violent upheaval. One could speculate that turning points like the end of the Cold War or the avoidance of certain wars might have had an unseen hand calming the scales.
Balancing Technological and Natural Forces: In our modern era, one of the biggest equilibria at stake is between technological progress and nature/human well-being. The Eye of Unity might operate by guiding innovation such that it ultimately benefits life rather than destroys it. Perhaps they quietly helped promote renewable energy developments to balance out industrial pollution, or inspired the creation of the internet as a global unifier (with the risk that it could also spread discord — balance is complicated!). They might also mitigate natural disasters when possible; not by stopping tectonic plates (they’re not omnipotent gods), but maybe by subtly increasing scientific cooperation or early warning systems. If a massive earthquake is fated, maybe an Eye of Unity agent encouraged the design of better earthquake-resistant buildings in that region decades prior, saving lives in the long run. These kinds of
One could compile a “legend roll” of events and assign possible Eye of Unity involvement. For fun, here are a few examples whisperers have mused about:
The Miracle of the Sun (1917): During WWI, it’s said the sun danced in the sky at Fátima witnessed by thousands — could an Eye of Unity member have had a hand in a phenomenon that renewed faith and hope during a dark war? Some say yes, as it rallied resolve for peacemaking.
The Cuban Missile Crisis (1962): The closest the Cold War came to nuclear armageddon. Declassified info reveals unusual empathy and restraint by key individuals on both sides at the tensest moments. Perhaps the Eyes exerted a calming influence on Kennedy, Khrushchev, and even the Soviet submarine officer who refused to fire a nuclear torpedo. The balance of life hung by a thread and was maintained.
Global Oneness Day (2000s-present): A modern initiative celebrating unity across cultures. It’s almost too on-the-nose, but the Eye of Unity might quietly endorse such movements, seeing them as aligned with their mission to get humanity to feel more interconnected (hence easier to keep balanced). Such events bring millions together in spirit, reinforcing the oneness the Society holds dear.
Ultimately, the Eye of Unity strives to be the quiet gardener of human civilization, pruning here, watering there, ensuring the whole garden doesn’t wither or run wild. They do so not for control or glory, but out of a profound stewardship. As guardians, their joy is in seeing life flourish in balanced diversity. They echo the sentiment of “unity in diversity,” the idea that embracing differences harmoniously makes life richer — a concept widely championed as a secret to humanity’s progress. Perhaps the Society had a role in promoting that very phrase; it wouldn’t be surprising!
One could argue that if they do their job perfectly, nobody will ever know they existed — because life will feel organically balanced, as if by its own accord. And that, to them, would mean success.
Given all this secrecy, is there any evidence or clue that the Secret Society of the Eye of Unity exists? While no concrete proof has ever surfaced (naturally), there are tantalizing breadcrumbs scattered across history and culture that believers point to. It’s almost as if the Society, despite its commitment to silence, left a subtle signature on the world — testaments to their presence meant to inspire those with eyes wide enough to see.
One major clue is symbolic. We’ve mentioned the all-seeing eye symbol and its recurrence on the U.S. Great Seal and elsewhere. That symbol’s motto Annuit Coeptis (“He [Providence] has favored our undertakings”) and Novus Ordo Seclorum (“New Order of the Ages”) have often fueled speculation of secret guiding hands in the founding of America. Some fringe theorists say it’s proof of Illuminati or Masonic influence. But true esoteric historians wonder: could it actually be a nod to the Eye of Unity? The idea that a “new order” built on balance and unity was being cautiously ushered in… The Society might have seen the birth of a nation dedicated (at least in aspiration) to equality and rights as a step toward equilibrium. Thus, sneaking their eye symbol onto the currency — an enduring place for a quiet reminder — would be a clever Easter egg. Of course, mainstream historians attribute the Eye symbol on the dollar to common Freemason imagery and Enlightenment values. Yet, one can’t shake the sense of a deeper motif: the eye atop the pyramid, overseeing from above, much how the Eye of Unity oversees humanity atop the pyramid of life.
Symbols aside, literature and art through the ages sometimes reference a hidden order or a relic that sounds suspiciously like the Sphere of Life. For example, in 20th-century lore, there was a fabled object called the “Rainbow Sphere” in certain occult circles said to represent the totality of human aura and fate — possibly an indirect allusion. Some secret societies have code-names that translate to similar ideas. The very term “Unity” pops up in unusual places: did you know the official name of the Serbian secret society known as the Black Hand (which precipitated WWI) was “Unification or Death”? Granted, that Unity was about nationalist unification, not exactly our benevolent concept, but it’s ironic usage of the term “Unity” in a clandestine group’s motto. Perhaps a distortion of the Eye of Unity’s ideals, twisted to justify violence — something the true Society would distance itself from. Nonetheless, it illustrates how secret group names can echo one another.
In modern popular culture, the Eye of Unity as a phrase occasionally surfaces in surprising ways — almost like cultural memory trying to bubble up. Science fiction and fantasy novels have toyed with names like “Eye of Harmony” or “Eye of Unity” as cosmic devices or powers. (Doctor Who fans might recall the “Eye of Harmony” as the power source of the TARDIS — an exploding star held in stasis to provide energy. The conceptual parallel to a contained cosmic power is noteworthy!) Such references may be coincidental creative choices, or they might be the result of writers subconsciously channeling archetypal truths. If one believes in Jungian collective unconscious, then the idea of an Eye of Unity guarding life’s balance could be an archetype that naturally finds its way into our stories and symbols without us fully realizing it.
Perhaps the most direct modern wink to this secret society is the one we’ve already touched on: the Eye of Unity NFT Foundation and its related creative projects in the 2020s. It’s rare to see a secret society step even one toe into the limelight, but if they did, using the medium of digital art and blockchain lore is ironically a safe way — people will interpret it as artifice or marketing. On the Eye of Unity website, blog posts discuss unity-themed philosophy, gaming, NFTs, and communal storytelling. Reading between the lines, however, some entries feel like manifestos of a hidden philosopher. For instance, an article titled “AI, Truth, and the End of the World: Eye of Unity’s Hidden Message” muses about technology, truth, and apocalyptic stakes — could that be literal hidden messaging from the secret society, cautioning about maintaining balance as we approach an AI-dominated era? Another post on that site speaks of authenticity in a fragmented world and a convergence of art, tech, philosophy, and community into a “universe”. This almost reads like the open-to-public version of the Society’s ethos (convergence, unity, authenticity). Of course, it’s officially about an NFT project, but the dual meaning is intriguing.
One particular piece on EyeofUnity.com even mentions the Kemble name in a historical context, noting the family’s tradition of blending art and visionary ideas. For the conspiracy-inclined, it’s not far-fetched to imagine that Michael Kemble, the artist, is either a present-day member or associate of the secret society who is encoding its ideals through creative works. By establishing an “Eye of Unity Foundation” publicly, he normalizes the phrase, possibly to deflect its association strictly with a shadowy group. After all, if someone now says “Eye of Unity society,” people might respond, “Oh, you mean that NFT thing?” and lose interest — thereby protecting the real Eye of Unity. Hiding in plain sight achieved!
Additionally, one might find clues in architecture or geography. Secret societies love leaving marks in buildings (think of Freemason cornerstones or carved symbols on cathedrals). The Eye of Unity’s insignia, presumably an eye within a circle or a stylized globe with an eye, could be subtly present in certain places considered important for world balance. For example, some claim that at the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg, there’s an eye-like art installation symbolizing cooperation. Or that in the layout of Washington D.C., aside from Masonic designs, an “eye” shape can be overlaid near the Capitol. These are fringe observations, but if true, they might be the handiwork of members who also happened to be in influential positions (many politicians and architects have been Freemasons; could a few have been “Eye” agents ensuring government centers incorporate symbols of unity and vigilance?).
One credible place to find evidence is in the testimonies of other secret societies. Often groups like the Freemasons, the Rosicrucians, even the Jesuits, kept extensive records or writings — and occasionally they reference other mysterious entities or teachers who guided them. If in some dusty diary of a Grand Master there was a line like “Today I met with the One who sees Unity, who admonished me to temper our ambitions for the sake of balance,” that would be a smoking gun. While no such quote has publicly surfaced, it’s exactly the kind of oblique reference one would expect. Who knows, perhaps in the Vatican Secret Archives or some restricted section of the British Library, there is correspondence hinting at an outside council ensuring no society (even the Masons or Church) destabilizes the bigger picture. Since we as outsiders can’t access those troves, we rely on small leaks. For instance, French author Jules Verne, who was fascinated by secret societies, included in one of his lesser-known works a passing mention of “the keepers of the world’s axis.” Some believe this was inspired by rumors he heard of a real group — possibly our Eye of Unity.
Finally, the equilibrium of life experience itself is a living clue. Think about it: despite all the turmoil in history, the human story continues. We’ve had horrendous wars, plagues, natural disasters — yet none have wiped us out. Conversely, every time we seem on the brink of a golden age, something humbling happens that forces us to correct course (e.g., after the technological optimism of the early 20th century came two world wars that made humanity reconsider its ways; after the excess of the 1980s, global environmental awareness rose in the 1990s, etc.). One can interpret these oscillations purely through socio-economic causes… or see a pattern of managed balance. As if some caretaker periodically turns the dial the other way to prevent self-annihilation or stagnation. This grand observation, the feeling that a certain equilibrium has indeed persisted (we’re neither in Eden nor Armageddon, but precariously in between), could be the legacies of the Eye of Unity’s work. Their greatest proof is that we’re still here, learning and striving, rather than having destroyed ourselves or transcended to some other plane entirely. It’s the Goldilocks principle of civilization — not too hot, not too cold.
As we conclude this imaginative exploration, the Secret Society of the Eye of Unity remains, fittingly, half in light and half in shadow. We cannot say for certain if they exist outside the realm of creative thought, but the idea of them resonates deeply. It speaks to a hope that somewhere, somehow, there is a guardian for humanity as a whole — not a paternalistic overlord, but a gentle guide ensuring we don’t lose our way completely. It also speaks to an acknowledgement that balance is key to life. Joy means something because we know sorrow; progress has value because we overcame struggle; freedom is cherished because we escaped tyranny. If someone or something helps keep those dualities in healthy tension, perhaps we owe them a quiet thanks.
The Eye of Unity, by necessity, would never seek our praise. If they are real, they watch anonymously as we forge our destiny, stepping in only when absolutely needed and never claiming credit. They are, in a sense, the ultimate unsung heroes — the custodians of tomorrow, yesterday, and today. Their secrecy, far from being sinister, is revealed as an act of selfless devotion: they relinquish recognition and glory so that we can be the authors of our own lives, within a stable, nurturing framework.
In a world often obsessed with exposure, transparency, and fame, the notion that a group would intentionally keep itself secret for eternity is almost romantic. It brings to mind vows of eternal love or eternal vigilance sworn by knights of old. There’s something uplifting about the possibility that right now, as you read this, an Eye of Unity could be out there — maybe sipping coffee at a cafe, dressed like an ordinary person, observing the hustle of life and quietly smiling because things are proceeding within tolerable balance. You’d never pick them out of a crowd. And that’s the point.
Should we believe in the Eye of Unity? That’s up to each of us. Some may take it as a fun fictional allegory, others as a serious hidden truth of the world. Either way, the message it carries is inspiring: guard the sphere of life. In our own small ways, we all can be “eyes of unity” by fostering unity in our communities, by seeking balance in our environment, and by keeping an eye out for the well-being of others. The secret society, if it teaches us anything, teaches us that equilibrium is an ideal worth dedicating one’s life to, even quietly.
Until the end of time — or until the day all mysteries are unveiled — the Eye of Unity will remain an enigma. They will continue to guard the Sphere of Life (whatever form it truly has) and ensure the grand experiment of Earth continues. The next time you notice the scales of fortune shifting in your life, or witness the world swerving but then righting itself from disaster, you might just wonder: Was that coincidence? Or do I glimpse, just for a moment, the wink of a hidden Eye, watching over us all?
After all, the greatest secrets often hide in plain sight — and perhaps the guardians of life have been with us, unseen, all along.

🗝️ The Nature of the Power Itself Demands Secrecy: Some esoteric philosophies claim that revealing certain knowledge or power diminishes its efficacy. The magic is lost once exposed. The Sphere of Life might be such a power — one that only works from behind the scenes. It could be that if too many minds focus upon it or if its miracles are displayed plainly, the delicate threads it weaves will unravel. This is a mystical reason rather than a practical one, but not an uncommon belief. (Consider the idea in many fantasy stories that you mustn’t speak a wish aloud or it won’t come true, or the notion that the observer changes the observed reality in quantum physics experiments.) The Eye of Unity might truly believe that silence is golden — that their guardianship must operate in the subconscious layer of humanity. As long as they stay unseen, the equilibrium remains undisturbed.
🗝️ Longevity and Continuity: The mission is literally “until the end of our world,” which could mean thousands or millions of years. Earth’s timeline is vast. If the society were public, could it realistically persist through the ages? Empires rise and fall in mere centuries. But an anonymous, secret order can quietly survive tumultuous epochs. They can move their base of operations when nations collapse, recruit from any culture or creed without bias, and adapt their outward guise as needed. By being no one and everyone at once, the Eye of Unity attains a form of immortality. Eternal secrecy begets eternal life (for the group’s mission). We see shades of this in real secret societies: for instance, Freemasonry has thrived for over 300 years partly due to its tight-knit private structure and adaptability, spreading across continents and persisting through wars and revolutions by staying somewhat under the radar with their internal affairs. The Eye of Unity likely goes even further — maintaining continuity maybe since antediluvian times because their secrecy is even more absolute (Freemasons are known to exist; the Eyes are not).
🗝️ The Equilibrium Itself Must Appear Natural: One might argue, if the Eye of Unity is so benevolent, why not prove their existence by demonstrating their balancing powers and get everyone on board with helping? But the catch is, for true equilibrium, the world has to evolve naturally. The society can influence subtly, but it cannot (or should not) micromanage humanity. People must still exercise free will, face consequences, and learn. The balance the Eyes guard is a delicate push-and-pull, not an imposed order. Should they reveal themselves, humans might become overly dependent or make radical swings (either rebelling against the “guardians” or worshipping them). In both cases, the natural flow is disrupted. The Eye of Unity prefers the role of the invisible hand guiding the scales, letting humanity take credit for its own progress. Their secrecy ensures that the credit and blame for world events remain with visible actors (governments, societies, individuals) — thus preserving the authenticity of human experience.
Maintaining the Light/Dark Balance: Life experience encompasses positive and negative, and interestingly, too much positivity can be detrimental just as too much negativity is. The Yin-Yang philosophy in Chinese thought holds that light and dark are interconnected and each contains a seed of the other; balance is achieved when neither overpowers the other. The Eye of Unity likely subscribes to a similar principle. If at any point the world seems swept up in a zealous frenzy of any kind (even a seemingly “good” one), they might introduce a counter-weight to ground it. Conversely, in times of despair, they instill hope. One modern example: during bleak times of global conflict, inspiring art and music often emerge to give people hope — one could whimsically imagine an Eye behind the scenes nudging a young musician or painter, knowing their work would uplift millions. In times where complacency and extravagance take hold (say, the exuberant late 1920s before a crash), perhaps they allow a corrective event to remind humanity of humility. The goal is not to eliminate darkness or light, but to keep them in a healthy dance. As a spiritual essay on integrating light and dark notes, wholeness is achieved by embracing both sides of our nature in balance. The Eye of Unity’s equilibrium is much like that on a collective level — making sure civilization neither loses its soul to darkness nor floats away in unrealistic light.
Interventions in Extremis: While preferring soft influence, the Eye of Unity may occasionally perform direct interventions when a critical threshold is crossed. These would be rare and often shrouded in mystery, perhaps later explained as miracles or freak events. For instance, if an apocalyptic nuclear war was about to erupt, maybe the Society would literally sabotage the launch mechanisms or cause a communications blackout that averts the catastrophe at the last minute (to the public, it might look like a random technical glitch or stroke of luck). Stories of near-misses during the Cold War — where we now know the world came within a hair’s breadth of all-out nuclear exchange — might cause one to wonder: was someone invisibly turning the key the other way? Similarly, if a pandemic threatened to completely extinguish human life, the Eye of Unity might empower scientists to find a cure faster than seems logically possible, or even dip into whatever ancient knowledge they have to neutralize it. These are speculative scenarios, but history is rife with moments that could have gone vastly worse if not for some fortunate intervention. The Society, if real, would take credit for those internally. Every time the Sphere of Life was on the verge of cracking, they stepped in and gently repaired the fissure, unknown to the world.
