Exciting news! @optimism was featured in a Forbes article.. highlighting our retroPGF funding mechanism as well as the We ❤️ The Art contest!
A very Educative and eye opener to what has happened in time past till date on the @optimism ecosystem.
The Optimism Foundation, the team behind OP Mainnet (previously known as Optimism, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution ranking as the second-biggest layer-2 network atop Ethereum),@optimism launched its first funding program called RetroPGF (which stands for retroactive public goods funding) in spring of 2021.
The Optimism Collective, a self-governed collective of the Optimism contributors, was tasked to distribute 1 million OP tokens to fund on-chain public goods. According to the Optimism blog post, “RetroPGF is based on the idea that it’s easier to determine what was useful than to issue proactive grants for what might be useful.”
So far @optimism has ran successfully 2 RETROPGF and the 3rd one almost finalised.
Not only is there a significant increase in each round’s fund (the current round of RetroPGF is about 30 million OP, which is around $112 million).

.@optimism runs different programs in each year, Currently, the range is quite wide, and the program is open for any submissions fitting the outlined criteria as long as the project is deployed onto any of the OP Stack chains.
For now, it seems that the program happens approximately twice per year with the intention of increasing the funding amount each round. The next round will open in spring/summer of 2024.
One of many events held in 2023 is still on going Called We ❤️ The Art
