What is NN Game Studios? What is OoT?
The use of NFTs and tokens: Why?
Layer Zero cross-chain compatability.
Localized blockchain wallet & responsible token metrics.
Opt-in to crypto… or not.
$TUSK infrastructure.
Integration of various mini-games.
Long-term goals.
NN Game Studios focuses on creating casual games that integrate blockchain technology into our projects. We have chosen the casual game genre because it is the largest in the traditional industry and has yet to be tapped into by blockchain companies. 1/3 of the global population are gamers. Over half are mobile gamers. Out of the top 100 games on both Google Play and the App Store, no game was blockchain native. As a studio, we plan to solve two issues: (1) Blockchain games are boring to play, and (2) access to games are difficult because of web3 barriers (ie. getting FIAT into crypto, expensive playable assets, extreme price fluxuations, etc.). Our first project is called Oceans of Terra.
Oceans of Terra is a free-to-play under water themed top down MMORPG blockchain game. All characters, in-game items, and land are owned by the players of OoT. The three main characters will be Narwhals, Mermaids, and Sea Turtles. Players can connect with friends, complete missions, defeat enemies, hunt for treasure, mine for gemstones, and much more. OoT is a self-contained economy running on its native ERC20 token $TUSK. Players also have the option to opt-in/out of crypto features.
In short, NFTs, tokens, and all else blockchain are not needed. They are simply a benefit to players. According to an article titled: “Blockchain Games: A Survey” by Tian Min, Hanyi Wang, Yaoze Guo and Wei Cai (2019), the main benefits of blockchain integrations in a game are: (1) Rule transparency, (2) Asset ownership, and (3) Asset reusability. Let’s explore:
Rule transparency simply means that all code, NFTs, and tokens can be traced on the blockchain. All this data is free for anyone to audit. In traditional games, this information is stored in centralized databases.
Asset ownwership means just that: players actually own their in-game assets. In traditional games, everything you purchased isn’t actually yours. The items and character skins are stored on a centralized database owned by that particular game/studio. Even if a centralized game has a secondary marketplace, you only have 1 place to sell your assets. The fees can be upards of 50%+. With ownership of your assets via a decentralized blockchain, players can transfer their assets to multiple marketplaces in order to land the best deal. Fees associated with decentralized marketplaces are typically 0-2.5%.
Asset reusability is a big one. Having a character in one game is nice. What if that same character could be played in other games? That’s exactly what NFTs and tokens bring. We utilize cross-chain compatible code, and therefore different NFT characters can be played on different blockchain games across multiple chains. Of course, this process is not seemless yet. Two projects would have to work together to make their asset movement, controls and art interchangable. The art may look different, but the NFT (the contract of digital ownership) does not change. This creates a sense of digital identity for gamers.
Tokens can also be used in different ways. Mostly, in-game money is spent within the game. With tokens, this money can be spend outside of the game. Utility can be endless, but some examples include: personalized merchandise, purchasing (minting) NFTs to different games, pre-sale and prize raffles, etc…
Smart contracts launched on Layer Zero give cross-chain compatability with a large number of popular blockchains. We have decided to utilize Layer Zero for two reasons. First, there is a discrepancy between what blockchains are best suited for games and which ones have the highest volume levels in terms of NFT sales. Players have the option to sell their NFTs on the chains that have the highest volume (thus increasing the liquidity of their assets) and also play Oceans of Terra on a blockchain that has lower fees and higher speeds.
Secondly, launching our game on Layer Zero keeps possibilities of future collaborations as open as possible. Interoperability of characters in blockchain games is something we strive for.

Oceans of Terra will have a unique approach to launching our game. We plan to launch our game with an integrated token before we actually design our token metrics. This token will be held in a local wallet. After many months of tracking user interactions with this token, we will hold our ICO. This tracking insures that we integrate the appropriate burn mechanisms and in-game utility as not to deflate the token value.
Many blockchain native games will integrate their web3 components right from launch. There are two problems with this method. First, not all players are interested in web3 components. As a game expands, the barriers to entry grow. Barriers include transitioning from FIAT to the right token on the right chain to purchase a usually expensive NFT (varies depending on game success). Second, the token metrics of these games are extremely complex and token value normally trends in a downward direction. This occurs for many reasons, but having proper utility and token metrics can correct that issue.
Along with Oceans of Terra’s localized wallet will be a localized marketplace. This marketplace will give users the freedom to sell and buy assets from other players, as well as NPCs. At no point will a player be forced to transfer blockchain assets -tokens and/or NFTs- to a blockchain wallet or exchange. This choice is all up to the player.
Both NN Game Studios & Oceans of Terra will host a plethora of educational materials for those that choose to venture into the blockchain side. This educational content will include Youtube videos, articles and Discord FAQ’s, IRL and online workshops, 1/1 sessions with trusted blockchain experts, and will be built parts of our game (ie. library books, oracles, etc.). Security will be strongly emphesized in our education processes.
The Oceans of Terra ecosystem will be built using a ERC20 token called $TUSK. The name Tusk comes from the Narwhal, one of the main characters in OoT. It’s horn-like structure on Narwhals is actually called a ‘tusk’! $TUSK will power our ecosystem.
The in-game uses for $TUSK are as follows:
Purchasing rare weapons, armour, and many other items from the marketplace
Forging rare items and reducing crafting time
Renting out your players as an AI mercenary (rental fees collected in $TUSK, owners of the mercenary set and collect the fees)
Renting out land parcels (rental fees collected in $TUSK, owners of the land set and collect the fees)
Minting new NFT sets (anything from loot chests, new playable characters, and pets)
Outside of Oceans of Terra itself, $TUSK can be used to:
Propose ideas and cast votes in our DAO (charity focused)
Enter various raffles within our community for physical and digital items
Purchase consultation calls with our team of expert
Initally $TUSK will launch in a centralized manner. The token will be bought from respective app stores as a specialty coin. These micro transactions will be our first revenue stream. Once there are is sufficient player volume, a token metric structure will be built out for $TUSK. The reason we are deciding to wait is to see how the $TUSK economy flows based on how users interacted with it. This allows the team to patch any bugs that might allow users to farm large amounts of $TUSK, hence lowering its value significantly.
Along with the main release of Oceans of Terra, we will be integrating various teasers of mini-games. These teasers will be found at arcade machines throughout OoT and will reward users with gold, various items, and sometimes even $TUSK. These mini-games are created with traditional casual mobile games in mind. Brickbreaker, Galactica, and endless runners will most likely be the themes of the first 3 mini-games. These games will incorporate their own blockchain mechanics and have their own sets of micro-transactions. Bridging NFTs and currencies throughout our gaming ecosystem is inevitable.
Oceans of Terra and its associated mini-games are just the start for NN Game Studios; we strive to be the biggest players in the casual blockchain gaming industry. Currently we plan to work on our own projects and those of the community. We may consider clients if their values and vision are strong enough, but that is currently not on the roadmap.
