Psychology is a science that studies the psychological phenomenon, mental function and behavior of human beings and animals. It is not only a theoretical discipline but also an applied discipline. Including basic psychology and applied psychology two major fields.
Psychological research involves many fields such as perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behavior, interpersonal relations, social relations, and also relates to many fields of daily life -- family, education, health, society, etc. On the one hand, psychology tries to explain the basic behavior and psychological function of individuals by the brain operation, and at the same time, it also tries to explain the role of individual psychological function in social behavior and social dynamics. It is also relevant to neuroscience, medicine, biology and other sciences, because these sciences discuss physiological effects that affect the individual mind. Psychologists engage in basic research with the goal of describing, explaining, predicting and influencing behavior. Applied psychologists have a fifth purpose -- to improve the quality of human life. These goals form the basis of a career in psychology.
The meaning of psychological symbol: The symbol was the Greek word for soul, which later became the English psyche.
The first task of psychology is to make accurate observations of behavior. Psychologists generally refer to this observation as their data. behavior data is the observation report about the behavior of the organism and the environment when the behavior occurs. When researchers conduct data collection, they must choose an appropriate level of analysis and devise ways to measure behavior that ensure objectivity.
Description must be faithful to perceived information, while explanation is careful to go beyond what can be observed. In many areas of psychology, the central goal is to find regular patterns of behavior and mental processes. Psychologists hope to discover how behavior works.
Psychological explanations usually acknowledge that most behaviors are influenced by a combination of factors. Some factors are at work within individuals, such as genetic makeup, intelligence or self-esteem. These internal determinants of behaviour are called organismic variables. They are special things about the body. In the case of humans, these determinants are so-called dispositional variables. And there are some factors that are external to it. External influences on behavior are environment variables or situational variables.
A well-trained psychologist can explain observed phenomena by applying his or her insights into human experience to facts that previous researchers have found about the same phenomenon. Many psychologists have tried to determine which of several explanations most accurately explains a particular pattern of behavior.
A prediction in psychology is a statement of the likelihood that a particular behavior will occur and the likelihood that a particular relationship will be discovered. The precise explanation of a cause underlying a particular form of behavior often allows researchers to make precise predictions about future behavior.
Field of study in psychology
Developmental psychology: The study of human growth and development from birth to death in old age.
Study psychology: Explore how people developed into their current state. Study how and why learning happens in humans and animals.
Psychology of personality: Concerns include personality traits, motivations, and individual differences.
Psychology of sensation and perception: The study of how humans perceive the world around them, such as how they recognize faces.
Comparative psychology: The study and comparison of animal behavior among different species.
Physiological psychology: The study of the relationship between behavior and physiological processes, especially the activity of the nervous system.
Cognitive psychology: The study of thinking problems, trying to understand the relationship between reasoning, problem solving, memory and other mental processes and human behavior.
Gender psychology: studies the differences between men and women, and explores the influence of physiological factors, child rearing process, education, social impression and other factors on gender differences.
Social psychology: The study of attitudes, persuasion, disturbance, obedience, leadership behavior, racial discrimination, friendship, love and marriage.
Cultural psychology: The study of the effects of culture on human behavior.
Evolutionary psychology: The study of the influence of various evolutionary methods on human behavior over the course of history. Such as mate selection between men and women.
Clinical psychology: studies mental health and mental illness.
Preschool child psychology: Preschool child psychology is the study from birth to school before the children's psychological development law of science.
Behavioral psychology: The study of the combination of physical responses an organism uses to adapt to changes in its environment
Criminal psychology: Study of the will, thoughts, intentions, and reactions of criminals
