In the year 2347, amidst the sprawling techno-urban landscapes, a group of avant-garde tech archaeologists unearthed a digital artifact from the fragmented realms of an ancient blockchain. Named "Decomposizione", the animated artwork, created in 2023, revealed a fascinating synergy between organic decay and digital existence, with its vibrant animations sporadically interrupted by glitches, signs of a slow yet captivating metamorphosis over centuries.
Harnessing cutting-edge technology, the group embarked on a mission to stabilize "Decomposizione", intertwining the old with the new, forging a bridge between eras. The glitches, now viewed as an integral facet of its character, became focal points of interest, narrating a timeless story of transformation and resilience.
Today, "Decomposizione" emerges as a living entity, a kaleidoscope where the boundaries between the virtual and the real blur, offering viewers an immersive odyssey into a world where art evolves, adapts, and thrives, embodying the ever-changing dance of time within the digital cosmos.

“Decomposizione” is a continuation of the themes within Pasin's past works, “Divenire” and “Isolation” which explore the human relationship with mutability and time within constrained boundaries. “Decomposizione” expands upon this curiosity, introducing an aspect of entropy or digital decay into his visual equation. Random glitches serve as reminders of the fragility of time and emphasize the importance of the role of human memory in experience. Despite the visual interference, our senses hone in on the signal within the noise, filling in the missing bits with our cognitive contributions. We become collaborators as our minds contribute imagined particles that complete the digital rot.

“Decomposizione” takes the concept of “every act of creation is an act of destruction” and flips it on its head. Compositions begin to form before your very eyes and then the passage of time begins to interfere with the transmission. Data packets become lost in translation as entropy sets in and time blurs the boundaries between elements that were intended and those that are imagined.
With “Decomposizione” we become masters of time as well as its victim. Despite the decaying signals, we have the technology to pause time with a single click so that we can further parse the signal from noise. Click again to restart time and animation resumes. And with the tap of a key (press D on the keyboard), we can easily restore “Decomposizione” to its original undisturbed state.
Dynamic data inputs inform “Decomposizione” as noise is calculated from minting wallet address and polarity is calculated from timestamp to deliver a fitting match from an array of palettes in day and night tones. Technical ability and creative mastery combine to create experiences that tell stories we can both see and feel. Time transforms. And so does “Decomposizione.”
Mouse click / tap: Start / stop the animation
Press ’D’ to remove the decomposition layer
Press ’S’ to save the current frame
Press ’F’ to go to the next frame

Emanuele Pasin is a self-taught artist from Bassano del Grappa, Italy. He crafts abstract, minimalist artworks using code, a medium where the ceaseless whirl of his thoughts finds tranquility and form. Driven by an overthinking mind that never rests, he embraces the chaos, finding inspiration in the constant dialogue between his past, present, and future selves. His practice, a blend of randomness and rigor, is an evolving journey of self-exploration, constantly pushing boundaries and seeking new avenues for expression.
