The World Cup is coming. To celebrate, we are launching 3D jersey NFTs on Ethereum that are inspired by the 32 amazing teams competing for the World Cup. These jerseys will be compatible with Hologram 3D avatars, and are another potential way for holders to be allowlisted for the Hologram Season Passes minting shortly after.

We are separately launching home and away jerseys (64 designs in total), with different utilities and ways to play.

Free mint. 3200 in supply (100 each team, uniquely numbered). 2306 reserved for early hologram supporters via mintlist, and 894 to the public. Each wallet can mint at most 1 jersey.

Each jersey costs 0.042 ETH. Anyone can participate. 3200 in supply (100 each team, uniquely numbered). Each wallet can mint at most 10 jerseys to get more teams. The mint will open between 1pm PST, November 14, 2022 and 10pm PST, November 19, 2022.

Random reveal will happen at 1pm PST, November 16, 2022. Each minted jersey will be randomly assigned to a team.

Besides being compatible with 3D holograms we drop in the future, both home and away jerseys are possible tickets into Hologram Season Pass.

At each match, we will randomly select 10% of the winning team jersey holder addresses (within 12 hours at the end of each match). For the top 8 teams, we will randomly select 25% of holder addresses (within 12 hours when the result is out). For the championship team, we will select all the addresses. Additionally, whenever a jersey number scores a goal, we select its holder address. The same address can be selected multiple times.

One more thing…

For away jerseys only, “buy backs” are included in the smart contract.

At reveal time, if you don’t like the team you got, our smart contract can buy back the jersey and burn it. All minting fees are locked in the contract for the buy back. The smart contract calculates:

Return fee = total funds locked in contract / number of qualified jerseys

Initially the return fee will just be the mint cost (not counting gas). The catch here is that the contract only buys back the qualified teams – the teams still alive in the tournament.

We can imagine what will happen. Suppose all 3200 away jerseys are sold out. No one executes the buy back. Then, after the group stage (when the field is cut from 32 -> 16), the buy back fee for the 16 team jerseys advancing to the knockout stage will be 3200 * 0.042 / 1600 = 0.084 ETH, which doubles the mint fee. The same doubling will continue until the championship, assuming no buy back is executed.

The buy back mechanism, though, creates an intriguing game theory dynamic amongst holders. Let’s consider an extreme 1v1 scenario where it’s the weakest team vs Brazil. Most people who randomly get the weak team’s jerseys will logically execute a buy back prior to the match, whereas Brazil jersey holders will hold. Let’s say there’s 1 weak jersey left in the market (a true believer) and 100 Brazil jerseys left going into the game. If Brazil wins as expected, the return fee for Brazil jerseys will increase modestly by 1%. But if a black swan event happens and the weak team miraculously wins, the weak team jersey’s return fee will increase by 100x.

We just think this is a fun, decentralized and fair way to support the team you believe in.

For fairness, the contract buy back is locked during the game.

Minting is random for both home and away jerseys. Minters will not be able to select a specific team; everyone has a fair chance to get their favorite team’s jersey.

Hologram will not receive any portion of the mint cost for away jerseys as the smart contract will lock in 100% of the minting fees paid by users. Hologram will receive 0 royalties for secondary market transactions involving the away jerseys. We don’t intend to launch this as a business, but rather for the soccer fans in our community to have fun.
