I’ve had my fair share of challenges while managing and growing different communities. While some were quite successful, my early beginnings were a little rough. Here’s what I’ve learned along the way.
Most projects struggle with engagements because there’s no transparency regarding expectations, deliverables, or available resources for growing the community.
Even when you propose strategies to grow the community, some founders refuse to let you experiment, limiting your ability to test what works best.
Some communities explode in size, but remain inactive, while others fail to attract members. Even when communities grow, sometimes users never engage with the products, like a gaming project where no one plays the game.
Telegram communities often have a high number of trolls and FUD spreaders, especially when security is low and bots can be bypassed
Stopping the activities that initially drew members.
Becoming lax after achieving initial results.
Letting go of core contributors or moderators.
Refusing to work with professional moderators or offering low budgets.
Moderators are the real power houses of retention, without them, growth is meaningless
Allow Growth Strategists do their thing freely.
Be transparent with budgets, plans, and goals.
Employe good moderators, who actively maintain engagement and create campaigns.
Encourage team and member contributions to optimize strategies.
Skills, strategy, implementation: Have the right people and let them execute.
Transparency: Clear communication across the team.
Professional Moderators: Invest in capable moderators for retention.
Active listening: Consider feedback from both members and team leads.
Following these steps can help any community growth strategist thrive and make their work more effective.
