Something felt different this week.
The tides are turning and the music industry is waking up to web3.
Fresh off a major Billboard article, I sat down with Daniel Allan live in LA to talk through what it means to be a web3 artist. You can read about it here.
We kicked off the Music NFT Launchpad this week - starting the first of four weeks for the first cohort of artists gearing up to release their first Music NFT.
Last week’s drops were some of the most impactful in weeks - with dozens of returning acts penning sellouts and secondary sales.
All I can say is that I’ve never felt more confident in the role web3 will play in the evolution of music distribution and consumption.
Think about it - when’s the last time releasing music has really changed?
We’re conditioned to find a label or distribution deal, schedule a release 5 weeks in advance, market the pre-save link on TikTok, pray for an editorial playlist and then what?
What happened to just putting out good music and not being so fixated on the results.
Talk all the smack you want, but Music NFTs are giving artists that opportunity.
It’s not about the impressions, it’s not about the streams. It’s about the connection.
For many leading web3 artists, they’re starting to show that this world is not only full of opportunity, but it’s a new mental model for how put music into the world.
There’s a lot to unpack there - but you’re on the cutting edge. And it’s only going to get more exciting from here.
Here’s what to watch this week.
Billboard suggest Daniel Allan might be web3's first breakout artist in their latest coverage.
Sound showcases a new way to display and curator collections.
HiFi shares a new program to help artist with their web3 journey.
0xSplits makes it easy to integrate spilts into platforms.
Arjan Timmerman recaps an electric night at the Afterparty house in LA.
Warner Records UK and Probably Nothing tease an upcoming label.
The royalty-backed NFT project celebrates one year in business!
Afterparty announces a new contest for artists in LA
