The writing is on the all for a Music NFT tipping point.
With the launch of Sound Protocol, composability is about to see a bump as anyone can deploy a Music NFT song contract for less than $10.
While it’s not quite open to the public, artists like Reo Cragun are demonstrating the potential with his new EP Frameworks - a 5-track project that lives on Sound and reocragun.xyz at the same time.
This comes on the back of Hume announcing a whopping $11.7M Series A - a very strong signal for metastars like Angelbaby and the next generation of virtual artists.
We saw OpenSea debut their primary Launchpad in collaboration with OmgKirby and Channel Tres - selling out 5500 editions of generative music.
The Weeknd quietly onboarded through Anotherblock - selling 400 editions of ‘Acquainted’ with a small cut of master royalties for holders.
Round it out with Blocktones offering fully commercial beat licenses from A-list producers in their genesis drop and there was a little something for everyone this week.
So - what does this all mean?
Minting Music NFTs is about to become cool.
There’s a cultural moment happening. The barriers to entry are getting lower and minting is changing from a novelty to a curiosity.
It’s the next chapter for independent artists and there’s a consistent recognition that this space is worth paying attention to.
Major labels are quietly inking deals to start distributing their catalog and players like Spinamp are offering a convenient streaming experience to bring these tracks to a new wave of curators.
