Many moons ago, I used to write/blog a lot. I got started primarily writing about PowerShell and other SysAdmin types of things. As my career matured the blog came to include even more PowerShell, some DevOps and a lot of Microsoft Azure. On several occasions I would go deep down a rabbit hole on a specific technology (I am looking at you PowerShell Desired State Configuration!) for a period of time and just see where I ended up. I always really enjoyed when that happened.
Probably 4-5 years ago I began to write less and less until finally it had been almost 2 years since I had written anything. At that time I decided to just get rid of the blog entirely (I had been self-hosting the blog on Azure App Services) and save money since I wasn’t using it. In retrospect, that certainly isn’t one of the “smarter” things I have ever done (turns out these days quite a few people are interested in writing samples, of which I currently have none).
I have been on quite the personal and professional odyssey over the last couple of years, and somehow it has culminated today in the beginning of what I am calling the “90 Days of Blockchain Tech” project. I fell down the “Crypto” rabbit hole almost a year and a half ago now, and once I wrapped my head around what a blockchain was, how they worked, and the things they could enable, I was all-in. I’ve literally written nothing about the actual technology, which is something I am absolutely passionate about, until today.
Why 90 days?
I don’t have an explanation other than that’s the number the Universe told me was the correct number.
What am I going to cover?
I don’t really have a plan. I have some bookmarks. I have some resources. I am just going to see where the Universe wants to take me and enjoy the ride.
What took so long?
Excellent question. All things in perfect divine timing.
Using mirror.xyz just seemed to make sense. I could have spun up another WordPress blog on Azure App Services (or done a similar thing on Amazon Web Services, just for a challenge), used Substack or Medium (which are certainly popular choices). My decision for using mirror.xyz mirrors (see what I did there?) what I intend for this entire 90 day project to be about: Getting hands on with the technology and sharing my experiences. It only made sense to use a platform that is utilizing the same technology that I am interested in.
Mirror.xyz has the ability to create Writing NFT’s (which is probably going to be the Day 2 post) and uses Arweave for data storage (which will be making an appearance in the project early on for sure) because I definitely want to explore how that data storage actually “works”.
From there, I have no actual plan. We will just see where the technology takes me :)
