Everyone has their go to hangover cure. Many are founded in longstanding tradition. How many actually work? I feel like I’ve tried them all and while I’ve settled on a multi pronged approach that works for me. There is a single supplement that has a surprisingly good track record. Read on for my dihydromyricetin review.
Dihydromyricetin is a bioflavinoid that is derived from the Japanese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis). The leaves and bark of this plant have been used in traditional Asian medicine as a hangover cure among other things.
DHM has been shown to upregulate alcohol dehydrogenase and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. These are enzymes that are produced in the liver to mitigate the negative effects of consuming alcohol. Acetaldehyde is one of the substances that is primarily reponsible for the feeling associated with ‘hangovers’.
DHM can be taken before drinking or at the end of the night depending on your goals. I find that taking DHM before drinking lessens feeling the effects of alcohol. I prefer to take it after I am done drinking for the night and take ZBiotics before drinking.
I’ve tried a few different DHM supplements. The first few I tried did not seem to have any noticeable impact. This could be due to DHMs poor oral bioavailabilty. My current preferred DHM supplement is manufactured by LVLUP. Health. This is one of the few that I’ve tried that has the desired impact. As mentioned above, I find the best results when combining this product with ZBiotics.
