Look around…
Everything you see once started as an idea, a figment of the imagination.
From the pencil on your desk to your MacBook, it all started in the mind.
So, where do ideas come from?
What prompts those ‘Aha’ moments?
Do we already have all the answers?
How do we move an idea, into a tangible ‘thing’?
Let’s talk about that…
Everyday thousands of thoughts come to mind, (60,000 according to studies)
Nearly all these thoughts are prompted by our surroundings
But we don’t remember everything…or do we?
99.99% of these thoughts cannot be recalled
So where do they go?
These thoughts are building your brain and mindset. This then projects your unique view of the world.
If you have a negative mindset everything in the world is against you, and you are a victim to everything happening around you.
If you have a positive mindset you see opportunities and many chances to do good.
Our thoughts help us form opinions, they prompt emotions, perhaps are a contributing factor to our personalities. They are like huge webs interlinking with eachother to create stories, understanding, emotions, reasoning, opinions and ideas.
All this information forms who we are and what we decide to do with our lives.
If you take the average of 60,000 thoughts a day, and multiply that by the last 10 years of your life, that’s 219 Million thoughts! How can you sit there and say you have no ideas?
So, how can you harness this information and how does this relate to business?
There is a saying which you may be familiar with;
‘If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got’
New ideas are important because they create new opportunities and they shape the future. They are a chance of creating new outcomes with positive results. New ideas are the result of asking new questions, and the right ones.
Whether you are trying to solve a complex problem or wanting to create a new offering for your clients, you get there by asking questions.
To explore different outcomes; experiment with new questions.
If you are trying to solve a complex problem ask;
‘How would we solve this if we started from scratch?’
‘Do we need to undo a recent operational change?’
‘Has this happened because a process is being stress tested?’
‘Is this a People, Process or Technology issue?’
‘Do we need money or skills to resolve this?’
‘Are we overcomplicating the problem?’
‘Is this actually a problem, and what would happen if we did nothing?’
If you are trying to create a new offering you may ask;
‘What do our customers care about the most?’
‘What are the biggest pain points?’
‘What are new and potentially disruptive technologies in the market?’
‘Are there any services in other markets which could be migrated into yours?’
‘What currently exists, but you know you can make better?’
You are more capable than you think you are. Your thoughts give you great insight beyond any other species. You see beyond what is infront of you, and you can imagine. You can think of something that is not, then make it real. Your imagination is a super power.

A few weeks ago I was watching a video from Dan Koe.
He spoke about 12 rules for making change.
It was one of the most moving and impactful videos that I've watched.
I wanted to share it with you.
I'm very particular about the content I consume as I know how impacts our mind, how we feel, think and make decisions.
I recommend everyone to watch this video.
One of his rules was ‘Projects’ which I feel resonates the most to this article.
Check it out, and let me know what you think.
