Hand-drawn variations of this map surface every few years and are mostly ignored at this point. Some believe it was a treasure map of some sort whose spoils were unearthed long ago. One curiosity is that in all cases the bottom of the map is always torn off.
The King's Crown is a fairly well-known landmark in the Scablands. It's a set of elevated pointed rock formations in a crater basin. The Scabland's compass rose shows how to orient the map toward the sun. The markings 1:4.897 represent the distance away from Iris's edge (or "sunward latitude"). The numbers constitute the ratio between an upright object and the shadow it casts. A drifter with arms outstretched parallel to the Iris edge, staring straight to the King's Crown would find themselves at the hollow circle, the supposed starting point of the map. From there one could calculate the exact distance of the squares on the map. But without any paths, what good is this "treasure map"?

If anyone outside of the "Order within The Order" were to find the torn off piece of the map, it would look something like this…

[The story behind the story]
Within the Order of the Pyramid is a treasury sub-order. The map is indeed a treasure map to vast amounts of the Order's assets. After they have proven themselves trustworthy, initiates are taught a chant. Initiates are later asked to trace their own version of the master map which includes the bottom section.
The astute initiate will eventually figure out the following:
The map is to be read on the diagonal with the Order’s symbolic pyramid pointing toward the sun and its lines parallel to the Iris border.
The center of the Order symbol is the true starting point of the map.
Chant 1 can be converted to a Parsons code where "start-repeat-up-down" corresponds to "start-forward-left-right".
Other points of note:
In the case Chant 1 were to ever become known outside the Order, a false treasure was planted at the end of the false start route.
If there exists a Chant 2, it would start at the ending spot of Chant 1, Chant 3 would start at the end of Chant 2, etc.
