Tiny Bytes: RSA
tldr RSA works by exploiting the fact we can’t easily factor 2 large prime numbers and group theory to make a trapdoor permutation, aka a function that turns x into y but y can’t easily be turned into x without a secret. However, implementing RSA gets tricky because there’s lots of subtle attacks.MathRSA takes advantage of the group Z^*_{n} (multiplicative group of integers modulo n). This is the non-negative integers less than n that have an inverse modulo n. 1 x 1 mod n = 1. 0 x int = 0 so ...

Hi,
Quick post today. I wanted to quickly look into private email and phone services. Keep in mind the idea would be to contact abortion providers without exposing one’s self to risk.
There’s a lot of private email clients. Adding encryption to emails is clearly a plus. I’m not sure how storing the email server’s out of the US will help here. Clearly, it will make it harder for law enforcement though I’m not sure if it makes it impossible. However, it definitely will in the case of getting an abortion. The gripes I have is that many cost money and will take the effort to create a new email.
It’s basically the same for private phone providers.

From the quick research, it seems like if you use a private email provider and a VPN it will be hard for someone to know you contacted Aid Access or an online pharmacy.
IP blocked by VPN
Based on the payment method the private email will be linked to you differently. Paying via PayPal will alert everyone. Some accept cash in mail. Also, you have out of state friend pay for you.
Speaking of private payments, you’ll need to set that up to pay for the pills.
The two problems I see:
Annoying to setup. You need to buy and setup a VPN, private mail service, and private payments. Ease of use and extra costs are a problem here. This is where having a default private way to message and video call providers would be helpful.
I’m not sure how helpful this all is. You need to give personal information to Aid Access and they need to ship you the pills. The information they collect could be attacked by law enforcement. There’s also the shipping issue and IRL aspect.
I do want to reiterate, making a private way to contact care providers still could help. There’s a chance that someone or agency tries to analyze digital breadcrumbs to find out who connected with abortion providers and these precautions would help.
No editing tonight. I’m tired.
Night,
Lucas
