Tiny Bytes: RSA
tldr RSA works by exploiting the fact we can’t easily factor 2 large prime numbers and group theory to make a trapdoor permutation, aka a function that turns x into y but y can’t easily be turned into x without a secret. However, implementing RSA gets tricky because there’s lots of subtle attacks.MathRSA takes advantage of the group Z^*_{n} (multiplicative group of integers modulo n). This is the non-negative integers less than n that have an inverse modulo n. 1 x 1 mod n = 1. 0 x int = 0 so ...

Hello,
Last day and I wanted to get a review in. Yesterday I rewatched Shrek 2 and it was a great time.
The movie takes place right after the end of Shrek. Shrek and Fiona get married and go on their honeymoon. When they come back they learn that Fiona’s parents, the king and queen of far far away, want them to celebrate her rescue and marriage.
The king and Shrek can’t stand each other. Fiona being and marrying an Ogre doesn’t sit well with the king. Shrek wants to be at his swamp. Shrek sees Fiona isn’t happy with how everything is going and tries to find a way to make her happy.
The king is in debt to the Fairy Godmother and promised that her son, prince Charming, could marry Fiona. He hires an assassin to kill Shrek, the deadly Puss in Boots. The cat can’t kill Shrek and eventually teams up with him and Donkey.
Shrek transforms himself and Fiona into humans but gets captured. Prince Charming pretends to be Shrek. Fiona isn’t having any of this and the Fairy Godmother tries to get the king to drug her to fall in love with Charming.
Shrek’s friends help him escape. The use a giant gingerbread man to break into the castle. The king is swayed by his daughter’s happiness and helps stop the Fairy Godmother. Everyone is happy.
I remembered Shrek 2 being fun but I didn’t remember it being so detailed. One of the bigger things that stood out to me was the tiny visual details. A character says a bad pun and the others are exasperated. The coffee store Farbucks is destroyed and the customers run across the street to another Farbucks. Lots of clues that the king was the frog prince. They made Shrek look soft when he was thinking about how much he loved Fiona. It rewarded the viewer for paying attention and I enjoyed that a lot.
From a world building perspective Shrek 2 also slaps. As a sequel it doesn’t rehash the same exact plot in the original and most of the pivotal characters are new. At the same time it expands and builds on everything the first movie did. Fiona was a rescued princess, well now that she’s rescued she needs to go back to her kingdom. What if someone else tried to rescue her and showed up late?
The first movie focused on being able to love yourself and finding love. The sequel still discuss body image and learning to love (your extended family while also building on these ideas. Now that you’ve found love, how do you build that love and keep them happy? What if you need to change to keep you love? These themes not only connect to the original but are also powerful ideas to explore.
Also, the move is just fun. The pop music is perfect for this movie*. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE ENDING WITH HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO AS SHREK COMES IN TO SAVE THE DAY. The fairy tale references and movie references are fun (also they hit in just the right way. They tend to be creative with them or mock them. It’s related to the film poking fun of traditional fairy tales. It fits with the tone of the movie). To movie is tight. It is only 90 minutes, to plot flows fast, and the themes/jokes come quick.
Idk I don’t really have any complaints. It’s a SHREK film. The animation isn’t incredible because it’s old but still expresses itself well. It’s not a serious drama, tense thriller, or space epic. But it’s not trying to be and doesn’t need to be. if you forced me to knit pick Donkey is a little annoying at the start (but that’s the point and it’s quick). I enjoy the ending more than the start but it needs to set the ground rules. I don’t understand how Shrek and Fiona don’t find each other in the castle, anyone else doesn’t recognize Charming when he’s pretending to be Shrek, and how Fiona doesn’t ask him questions to PROVE he’s not Shrek.
Again tho, these are super minor. I don’t really know what I’d do to make the film better.
It is fantastic. If you want to watch a fun and funny film with a good message watch this and be happy.
Night,
Lucas
