Located on the outskirts of the Alentejo village of Arraiolos, in the so-called Vale das Flores, the Loios Convent belonged to the Order of S. João Evangelista (of the Loios Fathers) and was founded in 1527.

After the extinction of the religious orders, the monastery and its properties were sold to private individuals, although the Portuguese state reacquired it and converted part of its dependencies into a national inn. This convent was classified in 1974 as a Property of Public Interest (I.I.P.).
This 16th-century monastery presents a blend of different artistic trends, from the late Gothic of the Manueline period, through Renaissance classicism, to the exuberance of the Baroque language, the result of the various works campaigns over the centuries.
Construction era : 19th century 16
Architect/Builder/Author: Rodrigo Anes, João Alvares and João da Silva, João Marques (author of the front porch of the temple)

Century. 14 – the town’s grantee founds his inns called Quinta do Paço;
1527 – foundation of the Convent of the Order of Santo Elói, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption;
1527 / 1540 – development of the building of the general structure in Quinta do Paço;
c . 1590 – structural intervention in the composition of the façade;
1700 – works inside the nave and lining of the interior walls with tile ashlars;
1834 – sold at public auction for agricultural exploration;
1980 – purchase by the State; 1995 – works of adaptation to the Pousada according to project by Architect José Paulo dos Santos
