Life and work
Cristovão Falcão (1512-1557) was a poet and diplomat and his most important literary work is the Éclogue Crisfal, a pastoral poem with 1015 verses that represents one of the most expressive examples of bucolic poetry in Portuguese. The work had a significant influence on later poetry, particularly on Camões.

Sculptural Reading
Sculpture
In the roundness of the shape and line that reveals a lying female body, one can perceive lyricism, at the same time emotional and highly suggestive, a characteristic that Cristovão Falcão's poetry embodies and has no parallel in the pastoral literature of his time.
Poetic Reading Just as in Cristovão Falcão, a poet from the mid-16th century, one discovers an intense discourse of drama and sensual tenderness in the figure of the shepherdess who is his beloved, in the Eclogue “Crisfal”, also in this sculpture one can glimpse the movement of the love.
Sculptor José João Brito
