Life and work
D. Dinis (1279/1325) was king of Portugal between 1279 and 1325.
He became known as the Farmer, for the impetus given to agriculture and the planting of the Leiria pine forest and as the Poet-King. He actively contributed to the development of troubadour poetry, leaving a significant legacy of Cantigas de Amor, de Amigo and Maldizer published in the Galaico-Portuguese Songbooks.
As a poet, D. Dinis is, among the troubadours of the Cancioneiros, the one who best represents troubadour poetry, of which he left us a kind of synthesis, having cultivated all genres.

Sculptural Reading
Sculpture
The sculpture was designed as a whole that integrates the landscaping and is composed of bronze pieces.
Landscaping
A green wall isolated the background of the houses' land.
Surrounding pine forest area.
Grassy clearing leading to the pedestrian path.
In the clearing next to the pine trees, an area with a red rose bush, some vegetables and small white flowers.
Bronze Pieces
Pine trunks (silicone molds of real trunks).
Height – 2.40 m
Diameter – 20 to 30 cm
Poetic Reading
Referencing D. Dinis as a poet is also referencing the extraordinary King he was. Perhaps being a poet, this restlessness, this background, this difference made him the King of change, after the conquerors of the land of consolidation.
D. Dinis thinks about Portugal, has an encompassing and unifying vision. Look “inside”, at the earth; plans, structures, makes laws, envisions the future.
The transparent glass screen is a reference to that vision, to poetic thought, to the door opening to another future expansion,
The “planter of ships to be”. Who better than a poet to define another poet.
The bronze pine trunks are the memory of this pine forest.
And roses, the miracle roses, which were also part of his complex personality.
Sculptor Graça Costa Cabral
Patron Tetra Pak Portugal, SA
