For Ponta da Ribeirinha, the General Plan for Lighting and Beaconing already envisaged the installation of a 4th order lighthouse, with fixed white light, with a luminous range of 13 miles in medium condition and 7 miles in hazy state.
In 1913, 3000m2 of land were purchased in Ponta da Ribeirinha for the installation of the lighthouse.
The Ribeirinha lighthouse came into operation on November 1, 1919. It is located on the Ponta with the same name and had a tower 20 meters high and 147 meters high. Initially, it was equipped with a 2nd order lenticular apparatus (700mm focal length), the light source being a constant level oil lamp, which gives it a luminous range of 28 miles. The rotation of the optics was done through the clockwork machine.

The building consisted of a masonry tower, lined with white tiles and with a square section. The attached compartments, on a single floor, served as housing for the lighthouse keepers and material deposits.
In 1937, it started to use the oil vapor incandescence system, which allowed the light range to be increased to 34 miles.
In 1958 it was electrified with the installation of generating sets, and the light source became a 3,000 Watt incandescent lamp.
The seismic crisis that occurred on November 23, 1973, caused various damages to the lighthouse, namely openings of cracks in the tower and in the houses, which led to the competent repair works.
The power of the light source was reduced in 1983 with the installation of a 1000W lamp.
On July 8, 1998, an earthquake destroyed the lighthouse. Taking serious risks, the lighthouse staff together with the Deputy Director of Lighthouses, and the precious help of the air force, managed to recover the lighthouse lantern and the optical device a few days later. Currently, there is a metal pole 5 meters high, 132 meters high, where an ML-300 flashlight was mounted, with a 50W 12V lamp and whose luminous range is 12 miles. It works on solar energy.
On May 20, 1999, the captain of the port of Horta asked that the optical apparatus removed from the lighthouse of Ribeirinha be placed in the marina of Horta.
In October 2002 the optics of the lighthouse came to the DF museum for recovery, where it is now.
