The Farolim de Vila Nova de Milfontes is a lighthouse located at the mouth of the Mira River, in the parish of Vila Nova de Milfontes, in the municipality of Odemira, in Portugal.

Description The structure is located in Ponta do Farol, in a place where you can see the village of Vila Nova de Milfontes and the estuary of the River Mira. It is located in the Miradouro do Farol, where the statue of the Archangel is located. This controversial work was created by the sculptor Aureliano de Aguiar, and was made of reused iron, symbolizing the degradation of the environment. Nearby is Praia do Farol.
History The lighthouse entered service in 1889, in order to improve conditions at the entrance to the Vila Nova de Milfontes bar. It was built after the appointment of a Commission of Lighthouses and Beacons, which was formed in 1881, and whose plan was approved in 1883. Its construction was part of a vast lighthouse program, which in the region of the Alentejo coast also included the lighthouses of Cabo Sines, in 1880, and Cabo Sardão, in 1915. According to the 1889 work Statistical General of the Post Office, Telegraphs and Pharoes, it originally had a hoisting device, with two fixed iron struts on the façade of the dossiers' building. lighthouse keepers, and had a fifth-order illuminating device, with fixed white light. In 1906, the Maritime Delegation of Milfontes requested the opening of a well to supply water to the lighthouse, since access to the lighthouse was difficult, due to the distance from the village, and the dune nature of the land.
