Life and work
Fernando Sylvan – Timor (1917/1993). Pseudonym of Abílio Leopoldo Motta-Ferreira, writer of Timorese origin. He was a poet and essayist, but also a playwright. He was linked to the Portuguese opposition for many years during the time of Salazar and Caetano.

After 1975, he represented Timorese writers several times in international forums and created the International Portuguese Language Day. His poetry has two distinct components: that of Timorese reference with a stylistic mix between modernist and pamphleteer and that of generic and autobiographical reference.

He developed a dynamic concept of Homeland, placing it dependent on an exercise of thought, citizenship and fraternity that allowed him to complain about European colonization and racism and justify the processes of independence, as long as they were authentic.
Sculptor FLÁVIO Nunes de Almeida MIRANDA
