The Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário is located in the square of Forte de Santo António, in the town and municipality of Lajes das Flores, on the island of Flores, in the Azores. It constitutes the mother church of the village. Erected in the century. XVIII, rebuilt in the middle of the century. XX, has a heritage that includes carvings and images of great artistic value.

History
It dates back to a primitive hermitage, under the invocation of the Holy Spirit, transferred to the site in the 16th century.
The current temple was built between 1763 and 1783, in order to replace the old matrix, whose floor gave rise to the current cemetery.
It was rebuilt in the mid-19th century and, in December 1880, work was still being carried out on the stonework for the chapel's arch, then raised by 1.10 metres. The installation of the main altarpiece dates from 1883, executed under the direction of the artist from Lisbon, Manuel d'Oliveira. Its first gilding, on plaster, was executed by the Brazilian J. Nunes Sobrinho, in 1885.
It underwent repair campaigns between 1907 and 1910, and restoration between 1953-1954. In 1964 several works took place, and in 1968 the altars, ceiling and ambo were painted.
Characteristics
It has a rectangular plan, 39.5 meters long and 12 meters wide, with two integrated towers.
Inside, in the chancel there is an altarpiece in painted revivalist carving.
